Leevis: wildcardjack: Ummm.... Where are they getting a supply of Twinkies?

Maybe they are using Little Debbie Cloud Cakes instead. Pretty much the same thing.

They're Twonkies.

Good Lord, NO!  Not *Twonkies*!!!  Not sure if you're familiar with the short story 'The Twonky', by Lewis Padgett (a/k/a Henry Kuttner and C.L. Moore) or not, but that was one Seriously creepy thingy.

germ78: Lesbian Nazi hookers abducted by aliens and forced into weight loss clinics, all this week on Town Talk

Sorry, I can't watch this.  I'm still hooked on weird talk shows about Transsexual Nazi Eskimos.

ClavellBCMI: That team needs *all* the publicity they can get (I live in battle Creek, and trust me, no one here thinks of the Battle Creek Bombers when they think of baseball.

I worked in Battle Creek for a week in 07 or 08. I met some of the kindest people I've ever met living in some of the saddest circumstances. So I've had a soft spot in my heart for BC since.

More power to ya'll.

Via Infinito: Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: It's soooooooooooooooo damn good.

"Here ya go, sonny.  Little somethin' for the ol' sweet tooth!"

I was right. Netflix doesn't have it streaming. Not on iTunes either. So much for my instant gratification.

It used to be on Netflix instant, because I remember watching it last year. Great film. Hollywood really needs a time machine to travel back to the 80s and grab all the brilliant writers/producers/directors/actors of the era and import them to now. There are so few reasons to go to the movies anymore, but back then the years were packed with classics.

/probably the cyclical nature of Hollywood
//we're just in a down decade
///gonna pop in the UHF dvd right... now.

//except for Beavis and Butt-Head Do America
///though B&B totally owe UHF for Burger World

I just got through watching UHF. I kept thinking that George's girlfriend Teri was kinda hot. Then I get to the credits and realize it's Victoria Jackson. I feel awful.

I've been waiting for their response but Weird Al's parents have been strangely silent on the matter.

Bathia_Mapes: Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: *quietly wonders if he has to get a new spatula*

Seriously, was there ever any doubt?

Hie thyself over to SPATULA CITY!

And remember...if you buy nine spatulas, you get the tenth one for only a PENNY!

*UHF is better than Roadhouse

When I first used the "L" word with Mrs. Bagumpity, I handed her a spatula and mouthed the words.  And every few years, she gets ten spatulas as a Christmas present.  (I tried to make it a Yuletide tradition, but reality in the form of two kitchen drawers full of spatulas intervened).

Mrbogey: Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: skylabdown: Roadhouse and UHF came out only a few weeks apart. 1989 was a year of movie gold.

Mrbogey: I explained to her how 1989 was a stellar year for movies and it got crowded out.

Damn straight.

(And let's not forget Turner and Hooch!!!)

http://boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?page=2&view=releasedate&view2 =d omestic&yr=1989&sort=open&p=.htm

The year was pretty solid for films. The Abyss and Parenthood came right after along with Friday the 13th 8 and Nightmare on Elm Street 5. Before that it was When Harry Met Sally, License to Kill, Weekend at Bernies, Batman, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and Ghostbusters 2.

Movies released earlier that year that continued through the Summer included Roadhouse, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Dead Poets Society, and Star Trek 5.

There just wasn't any room at the show for cult films.

all this discussion about 1989 and how great it was for films including arguments about UHF and roadhouse and still no mention of erik the viking....

so so sad...
