Considering how easy Norovirus is to spread, especially in confined quarters, the cruise personnel are to be commended for keeping the known infection rate below 4%.

But this isn't norovirus, where you puke/shiat yourself to death.  This is novovirus... Nova is Latin for new, novel.  Hence Novovirus is a new virus... it's much, much worse.... because you puke from the eyes and shiat from your *cough*...  Horrid sight, completely horrid.

Because generally, the crews do a good job of keeping the ship wiped down, hand sanitizer is everywhere, and on the whole, cruises are fairly cheap and a hell of a lot of fun.

And yeah.....105 or so out of two THOUSAND passengers...."hundreds" were sickened and it was a NIGHTMARE cruise.  Oh, the horrors.

This.  The cruise we went on recently I saw passengers coming out of the shiatter and skipping the sink.  Don't understand some people.

The crew I saw was very fastidious in regards to sanitation.

The cruise line business will always be with us. Even if it takes a government bailout to keep them afloat. It's all part of the planned "Strength Through Joy" Program.

For me, it's about what you can do when you get sick.  I had it a few months ago, got my ass to the ER (it was late Sunday night)  BEFORE the vomiting (awesome!), I wonder if they have the kind of necessary medicine to deal with it.  Can they hook up 100 people to anti-nausea IV drugs?

I know, look at how many incidents the North Korean cruise line industry has had. Zero.

Never eat at the buffet on a cruise ship.  That's how you get sick.

People are disgusting pigs.  They take a shiat, wipe their ass, don't wash their hands and then touch the serving utensils.  Later you come along and serve yourself a nice big serving of fecal matter on your hands and in your food.

As me and some other farkers noted in yesterday's norovirus thread, this is some of the worst sh*t you can possibly get, in my case it was worse than when I had a burst appendix. At the time I was still smoking, and went through this cycle of dry-heaves, which brought on coughing fits and retching, which kicked off another dry-heave session. Then the 40 - 50 squirts per day. It really is just awful.

On a side note, my girlfriend (now wife) at the time gave me the "men are such pussies when they're sick" routine. Two days later she got it. I can say without any type of sarcasm that I was the proper gent and took magnificent care of her, because despite the awesome schadenfreude opportunity, it's just so awful I couldn't bare to rib her over it.

Honest question: Do navies around the world have similar issue with norovirus? I've never heard of this happening on, say, a carrier. I'm sure that the US Navy would have reasons to keep it secret if it did happen, but I wonder what they're doing that Royal Carribean hasn't figured out.

that's part of the risk you take being at sea, hiking in remote area, travelling to an undeveloped nation, hell, even taking a long flight. shiat happens. it's part of the human experience. Not the cruise lines fault.

they do have a fully stocked sick bay with a physician and several nurses who can triage and stabilize, and I would bet my left toe a cruise ship carries anti nausea drugs.

Of course you couldn't. If the Norovirus teaches us nothing else, it that you should never shiat where you eat.

Yes, because humans evolved over millions of years to exist only in the presence of handwash and disinfectant wipes. Wouldn't it be great if we had an immune system?

NIXON YOU DOLT!!!!!: they do have a fully stocked sick bay with a physician and several nurses who can triage and stabilize, and I would bet my left toe a cruise ship carries anti nausea drugs.

The average cruise has about 1000 passengers with an average age of around 70. At that age you have about ten years left, if you're lucky, which is about 500 weeks. Over a one week cruise, therefore, they expect a couple of buckets to be kicked. Cruise ships have well equipped mortuaries. They don't advertise this.

Is it possible to imagine a more stereotyped cruise passenger? Being trapped in a floating hotel for a week with a thousand of these would be my personal definition of hell.

they are well over two thousand, and I have never seen an average age anywhere near that. cruising ain't just for grandma anymore. but yes, they are well equipped and trained to handle emergencies at sea, better than any of the small towns in America that are hours away from real help. as to habdwashing, they put sanitizer in the walking path to the beginning of every buffet line and entrance to every dining room. they publicly shame you into using the d
stuff. and you will see the crew several times a day with buckets of disinfectant wiping down eailings and

mrswood: I am so sick of people trying to talk me in to going cruising and how freaking great it is. Every day there is a new story about living hell on a shat ship. I don't want to be on a floating virus city. I'm not a germaphobe and not phobic of other things (I think), I just can't imagine being stuck with thousands of people on a cruise ship. I'm not going and you can't make me or change my mind.
That felt good to let out.

Lt. Cheese Weasel: Not gonna do a cruise, ever.  Makes no sense.

would like to point out that when they work, they work very well.
They are useful for visiting a number of unfamiliar area's  in a short time span ie; used to visiting europe and want to see if the Caribbean basin has interesting places?  Cruise is the way to go.  Don't care for Grand Cayman?  How about Cozumel?  Ever travel somewhere and just can't stand it?  Sucks

On s shore excursion the crew sends a guide, makes all the arrangements and (this can be very important) sends food and beverages so that you don't have to be exposed to local cuisine  which can be twitchy for some.

again, when the cruise works - when it doesn't it's hell on earth.
