What is there that's going to be left of a rabbit after you shoot it with a shotgun? And then you have to pull all the pieces of the shotgun shell out of it.

Depends on the load you use and the shotgun size.  Generally there will be quite a bit left.

On the other hand, wild rabbits (as far as I know), are plentiful. So if one likes hunting, then they're not a bad choice of small game.

In any case, I hope they take the gun away from the idiot in this story. He should probably not be hunting, least of all with firearms, if he did what the story says he did.
