Random question here: If these women are so proud of their vaginas and claim to draw so much personal strength from this aspect of their womanhood, then why do so many of them feel the need to shave or use Brazilian waxes? This phenomenon of a hairless vagina as a standard of beauty if both the result of peer pressure and the practices of the porno industry, and ultimately results in unhealthy body image given the fact that a woman must remove a naturally-occurring part of her body in order to seem normal. Furthermore, the absence of pubic hair as a standard of beauty seeks to diminish the idea of an adult woman as sexually liberated and independent by determining that she must appear as a prepubescent girl in order to be "sexually acceptable" for men. This social pressure has the psychological repercussion of creating a sort of "woman-child" standard of beauty, thus implicitly diminishing the perception of a woman's intellectual capabilities and has wide implications on the state of gender equality.

You're delegitimating people's own experiences with their own bodies and the political impulses involved. The pictures, far from being "harmless" are quite obviously powerful--they challenge the shame and secrecy about female reproductive systems that helps enable politicians to get away with invasive laws on people's bodies. If they didn't there wouldn't have been a controversy in the first place and you wouldn't be reading about it on Fark.. So no, we are NOT in agreement, cupcake.

ACunningPlan: Nem Wan: cantsleep: I've seen photos of aborted fetuses refered to as medical waste and shock photos, why the need to dehumanize something you support? Those pictures are the real results of abortion.

Why don't we get more anti-war protestors waving giant posters of gore and disfigurement then? The "real results" of war? Anti-abortion protestors who use gory images are not seeking to inform but to distort, to emotionally conflate fetal life with babyhood and childhood, to misdirect compassion from women who know their own struggle to barely-formed life that knows nothing, to make people less rational and humane, not more.

Tell a couple whose latest round of IVF miscarried that they didn't lose their baby, that it was barely-formed life that knew nothing and that their grief is merely emotional conflation of fetal life with babyhood & childhood.  We draw an arbitrary line based on what is viable because we have to, but we are still terminating life and gory pictures are that reality.

Fwiw, gory pictures of anything are in excessively poor taste - it's not hard to work out what a battlefield injury looks [& smells] like; the same goes for the aftermath of medical procedures.

/I'm pro-choice but I'm also a realist; a bundle of medical waste to one person, is the loss of a child to another.

I don't deny this. On the contrary, my entire point is that the mother is the one who's aware of what's going on, who is experiencing this. A miscarriage is a hard loss. An abortion can be even harder, either by being forced upon a woman due to medical issues or chosen because other costs to her life or her family's life would be too high. Miscarriage can be accepted as fate, but abortion carries responsibility, and that makes it one of the most difficult decisions one can face. Other people's compassion should be with the woman and people supporting her, because she is the one going through this. To hope waving a gory photo at strangers will encourage people to want to take away her choice, to deny her compassion, because an aborted fetus looks horrible, is a demented, thoughtless thing to do.

A doctor near me often has a bunch of antiabortion protesters outside his office. One year, they had lined the street with huge posters of mangled fetuses. It was disgusting. I called the cops and complained. They said people had the right to protest. What about my right to not lose my breakfast on my way to work? I told the cop if I were out there with posters of breasts or penises to raise cancer awareness I'd be arrested. But pictures of bloody corpses is ok. I think enough people complained. The protesters are still there but their signs are text only.

that doesn't have anything to do with it. Mom should've had an abortion in that case.

It has everything to do with it.  It's called child support fer cryin' out loud, not baby-momma support.

This.  Child support is not a property right that the custodial parent has.  It's an obligation that BOTH parents have to the child and society.  Giving up your parental rights does not void your debt to the child or society.  A custodial parent who refuses to pursue child support is as reprehensible as one who refuses to pursue medical care for a child.

So in the land of milk and honey..and birth control pills...why does abortion even exist? Most stats show the increased use of birth control causes an increase in abortion. Why? Simple. The failure rate of the pill is higher thn stated. When it fails, it usually fails on a woman who was not wanting to have a child. Therefore, we have abortion. It's a pretty anti woman cycle there. Sounds like this birth control with abortion backup plan was invented by horny frat boys.

The folks at Kimberly Clark who made these huge gauze pad bandages for WW I soldiers who were badly hurt and had large wounds, so as to soak up the massive bleeding and allow clotting before hemorrhaging out, found a great use for them after the war as disposable feminine napkins.  Nice bit of work, that.  I wish so many useful products didn't emerge from wholesale genocide.

Your sentences contradict each other. You most certainly can yell fire in a theater. If it's empty, if you're on stage and it's part of the scene, if there's actually a fire, or if you provide adequate warning that it is a demonstration of free speech and does not represent an actual instance of a fire. You know, the reasonableness, context, and intent matter, so don't make blanket statements about what you can or can't yell.

I also disagree with the prevailing opinion here that Sarah is a porker.  She's tall and kinda cute.  Her lady parts however leave something to be desired.  I'd still hit it, though!

umm by definition, sexual organs are a sexual context.  I'D masturbate to them.

Anything depicting people's sex organs is pornographic, therefore obscene? Paintings of nude people are pornographic? Any photo of a nude person is pornographic? So, if you're at the doctor's office and you're nude, that's sexual? This is one of the issues we have in this country, we've completely sexualized everything associated with the naked human body, thus all the hangups about breastfeeding and covering up of statues in Washington. That's non-sexual nudity.

I don't normally jump into frays like this, but my Lortab has made me bold.
