Government is quite happy to fark people over on technical breaches of the law, so cry me a river when people use the same tactic.

Sadly, no, unless the red light was a nonstandard light that you could reasonably believe is not an official traffic control device.

On one of the side streets near where I work, some buffoon puts a "Speed Limit 10MPH" sign on her front lawn. I blow right past it, confident that it's not an official sign.


Be careful, somebody did that when I was a teenager. They put up their own 45 MPH speed limit signs and my friend got a ticket from the cop that was following her. It didn't seem to matter that it wasn't a valid sign.
