Bugs Bunny is the best cartoon character ever, but my favorite Looney Tunes quote comes from Pepe Le Pew:

'Everyone should have a hobby, don't you think? Mine is making love.'

When studio acquired Leon Schlesinger productions, cartoon outfit, in 1944, he became prexy of Warner Bros. Cartoons.....

I suddenly wish that WB had created a voluptuous cartoon character named Prexy. Sigh.

/Sleep well, gentlemen. And many, many, many thanks.

I will never forget how Bugs Bunny got me ridiculed in the third grade...

CSB time -
There I am at my desk and the teacher is calling us up to the board to spell words. Finally she gets to me, I walk up and she gives me the word 'dumb' and I hesitate for a moment before remembering the line 'remember kids, mud spelled backwards is dum...'

It most surely is not, Mr. Bunny. It most surely is not...

Look for the "Golden Collection" - 6 sets of 4 discs, includes many of the ones you'll never see on TV again, and full length un-edited ones of what they still show. Plus a whack of bonus stuff. See you in a month or so!!!

I seem to remember a story about Mel Blanc basing his Daffy Duck voice on Schlesinger. I could be wrong here but didn't Blanc do it as kind of a goof and when Schlesinger finally heard it he said "Thath the funniesth goddamn voith i've ever heard!"

For a good reference on the History and Fun of the Warner's toons, check out "That's All, Folks", by Steve Schneider.  Look for it through ABEBooks.com.  It's coffee-table book (try and get it in hardback - it's worth it).

And, in addition to the Warner Toons 'Golden Collection' series, see if you can find a DVD called 'Toons at War'.  This one has other studios' work in addition to Warner Bros.  (Popeye, Disney, MGM, etc., are present.)  No producer of the DVD or any other identification of the source are seen on the case or disk; it may be available at www.monstersinmotion.com.  The toons haven't gotten a deluxe digital remastering, as the Golden Collection did.  These are all WWII-era productions, and are generally regarded as not Politically Correct nowadays.  But for a student or aficionado of toon history, they are a near-irreplacable reference.

Uhhhh,...the artists who actually created those classic Looney Tunes, such as Chuck Jones, Maurice Noble, Mike Maltese, Ken Harris, etc. were unanimous in their disgust of Leon Schlesinger and (especially) Edward Selzer.

Those two executives mainly thwarted the artists, rather than enabling them.

When will the follow-up article about how that idiotic anime-styled "Looney Tunes in the Future" cartoon almost killed the franchise come out?

They died in bed, if you're fixin' for a Wiley E. I still find it really perplexing that the oldschool Looney Tunes reruns on Cartoon Network don't air Speedy Gonzales clips due to racism, but they still run Pepe "The Date Rapist" Le Pew...

Wasn't Leon Schlesinger caught embezzling from the studio and encouraged to "retire" in order to avoid a trial?

Regarding Le Pew.  Give him a break, he's French!  And there's no actual rape.  Did the cat EVER say 'no'?  You might argue sexual assault, but definitely not rape.
