Too bad the article said nothing about him trying to sell back the coin he earlier stole.

Subby's reading skills need a bit of work.

So if the coin is worth more or less, the seller won't notice?

greenlights have very little to do with the headline matching the content of the article. they have more to do with who submitted the headline that has nothing to do with content.

and this isn't trolling or harassing, this is a common criticism expressed by many around here.

I know the admins have to 'read through' a lot of headlines, but at that last minute, once 99% of the submitted articles are red, a little click-through to verify the content will go a long way in avoiding weak, cheap greenlights like this one.

shame on you subby for gaming the admins.

That's cause that @-hole Rick would only give him $50 tops.  Bad economy, these things just not selling, yada yada yada.

Yes, you need to have your plan for fencing it before stealing something specialty.

I saw a kid try this with about 10 1950s baseball cards once, he had managed to shoplift the entire tray from a display. -- A few hundred bucks worth of stuff at the time, then came back the NEXT DAY with just those 10 cards to try and sell "his collection" to the store owner.

The next day.

I see that guy from time to time on facebook.  He seems to have survived life despite this mind blowing lack of common sense.

So the coin is a few days older, that's got to be worth a few cents profit.

Coin dealers are not that rare; there's at least one in every mid-sized city.

Where did it say he tried to sell it back? Sounds like he wanted to steal more coins.

Well, the headline and first sentence of the article are a bit confusing. "Coin theft suspect caught on return" could seem to imply that he'd returned THE COIN, and if your English is subpar as so many kids' is nowadays, you could be misled into thinking the guy had returned the coin.

After all, the photo caption does read: Police say this man allegedly stole an coin worth more than $8,000 from a Des Moines shop. so you can't blame poor Subby for being the only idiot in this sorry tale. The journalist also is lacking some basic writing skills.

Truth is stranger than fiction....A million years ago during a misspent youth,I'm in a poker game that was going into the second day...Boom,door swings open and there is a guy wearing a ski mask..and holding a pistol..
Things get strange when,by the clothes he was wearing,he is recognized as a player who had gone bust the first day....And a little stranger when he only takes the house cut and does not take any of the players table or pocket money.......He leaves without incident and believe it or not..after some discussion, the game continues.
No more than a hour later....and only as this story can end..the guy comes back, sans ski mask and pistol..but still wearing the same jacket, shirt, pants and shoes...sits down and says to a stunned table...deal me in!

Hey, it's the Des Moines Register, therefore, it's a given that their reporters lack way morew than basic writing skills.

Close....that was just the beginning of an illustrious career....He went on to become a ranking Gambino capo of the New Jersey faction...died in Federal prison a few years ago.
