I do, too! She's tough as nails and actually thinks about what Americans need rather than what corporations need.

I sure can't wait until a crackpot Republican desperate for media attention mentions this, so the "liberal" mainstream media can run with it and say, "WHERE ARE THE DEMOCRATS ON THIS?!"

Buy a car, house, surf board and humidifier with the proceeds from your $100/week dealing? The state charges your stuff with crimes against humanity and sells it.

HSBC launders close to a billion dollars for drug cartels? No one gets charged, and HSBC pays ~1 month's profit as a penalty.

For taking the economy in to account when deciding whether or not to prosecute. Has nothing to do with his position, and I don't see any good reason that corrupt money men get a say.

That would be great, they can conduct their banking from under a series of those tents contractors buy to put their miter saw under.

Las corporaciones son personas, amigo mío.

I mean, we can't just put part of a person in jail, that would be absurd.

Holy crap. If she keeps this up I'm going to dump my wife and propose to her. Ms. Warren, who's awesome? YOU'RE awesome!

2013-03-08 02:06:19 PM
Doesn't she know this will scare bankers with 'uncertainty,' and because they don't like uncertainty, they will punish us with a bad economy until we stop it from happening?

Come on guys, what we should be asking is, "how many jobs will it cost to punish criminal bankers, and is that cost too high?"

Yes, my TV is stuck on Fox News. Why do you ask?

2013-03-08 02:08:19 PM
Do banks actually have meetings with the drug king pins and discuss terms and fees and whatnot like how it is portrayed in the movies?

How about instead of throwing ANYONE in jail for coke we just legalize it for adults? Tax the shiat out of it...hell, make a hit cost about the same as a bottle of decent booze or a pack of ciggies...whatever. But prohibition for pot and coke make about as much sense as it did for alcohol...i.e., none to speak of.

/knows it has a snowball's chance in hell of happening

Someone that believes in justice, looking out for the average person, and not just rolling over and giving Big Money whatever they want, well, I'd say that person was a throwback or an anachronism, but I'm not sure those values ever actually existed on a cultural scale.  MAYBE some of the founding fathers had those qualities.

The country DESPERATELY needs more people like Elizabeth Warren.  We've got a lot to fix, and there's a shiat-ton of money set against that goal.

2013-03-08 02:10:24 PM
Is her MO pulling in people to complain to them that they are not doing other departments jobs?

2013-03-08 02:10:41 PM
Why don't we just end the war on drugs instead? That would free up more assets to go after real crime...like everything else banks and Wall Street does that is considered legitimate.

2013-03-08 02:10:55 PM
They posed a huge financial penalty, which pretty much has the worst-case effect of causing the company to maybe lay off a few local workers to protect the shareholders and execs. The people who did this still get off scot-free.

The ONLY way to punish the people responsible for the decision making that leads to this sort of thing is to send their asses to Federal PMITA prison. Financial penalties only hurt the little guys.

I feel bad for Elizabeth Warren, because she is probably going to have her life and career destroyed by the Powers That Be in the next few years. They HATE her.

She did get this far, though. Maybe she has already figured out how to protect herself.

Giltric: Do banks actually have meetings with the drug king pins and discuss terms and fees and whatnot like how it is portrayed in the movies?

As a matter of fact they did. Specifically, the bank branches in Mexico changed the shape and size of the opening in the bullet proof teller window to match the size of the box the cartels were transporting cash in. That make it easier to load the cash into the teller window.

/not kidding
