How does one vandalize a school with yarn? I am disappointed with the lack of details in the story.

Holy hell what happened there?

Was formatted nice and perty in the preview. Sorry!

when yarn is stretched out, it releases naturally occurring radioactive material.

that's why cats try to unravel balls of yarn.  your cat wants you to die of cancer.

2013-03-08 11:00:44 AM
To be fair, that yarn would have been highly distracting to all the kitty's

Probably yarn knotted through all the lockers' handles, making them rather difficult to open.

Why? You have no plans for the weekend, and have seven nervous sheep that you need something to do with?

If only schools had a supply of scissors to deal with such threats...

I'm guessing it has to do with the latest trend of knitting bombs. Basically it's a form or public art and "harmless" graffiti.

With helpful pic of what normal non-vandalized, with yarn or in any other way, school lockers may look like.

CSB:

When I was in high school, we had a rival school that was on the other side of the hill.  So before a big football, basketball, baseball, game between our school and them, there was some occasional teenage shenanigans...typical, mostly harmless stuff - TP a tree or two, sneak onto each others campus and use chalk on the ground saying that the other was going to win, etc.  Nothing permanent, most of the parents and school admins/teachers like the silly rivalry, it was safe and all in good fun.

So some genius' from the other school decided that "they'd show us".  They dumped like 20 old tires and gallons and gallons of used motor oil, various chemicals, gasoline, bags and bags of chemical fertilizer, etc. into our school pool.  The pool was shut down for months.  They had to bring in a hazmat team to drain the massive thing, they stripped all plaster and tiles,  They had to rip up the deck because there was damage to that as well.  I think some of the bleachers were covered in oil too.  All the pool pumps, heaters, piping to and from the pool, filters...all had to be replaced.

IIRC the repair bill was on the order of about $2.5M.  The school district and the other school did an investigation and found like 5 guys from the swim team were responsible for it. They made the parents pay for all damage.

As a punishment, IIRC, the school that the vandals were from was not allowed to have any team sports for the remainder of the school year.  My school's team got to use their pool until ours was finished.  This went on from like March through July.

The boys were obviously expelled, I think they did some time, like 90 days in juvy...They had to do hours and hours of community service.

I remember when we had a day off school because someone broke in in the middle of the night and took all the books out of every unlocked locker and threw them all over the hallway.  That was awesome.  At least for me anyway since I had a lock on my locker.

It's also our policy to close the the school whenever  we had too much to drink at tgi fridays children talk too loud.

There's a little bit more information in this article. Seems it might be silly string. However, most of the article is about how difficult it is to get information out of school officials.

Patients in mental institutions aren't allowed yarn or needlecraft items except in some cases when they are supervised.
Can see how this rule would cross over to schools.

She insisted that nothing newsworthy had happened at the school.

Not only more informative, but honest, to boot...

They should make it a rule that any gov authority figure has to have had some serious military service. Like front line, crawling under enemy fire kinda time. Might help them gain a little better perspective, the next time someone pops a plastic bag, or yells "Bang!"

I got a pic of a yarn bomb at my Park N Ride a few weeks ago.  It was a pretty red heart woven thru the holes of one of the benches with the word love underneath it, right before Valentine's Day.  My old phone died on me before I could do anything with the pic, unfortunately.  It was cool.  I can't knit or crochet very well even though I was taught when I was 5, otherwise, I'd be out yarnbombing.  There's a bit of it going on here in Denver recently.  It always makes me smile.
