Does that include the employees who thought MOTOBLUR was a good idea?

Besides the irrelevant argument of "they can afford it", what is evil about laying off people they don't need?

Of all the things one might use as examples of Google being evil, I'm not sure that's one of them. That said, I don't get WTF Goog is thinkin'. Samsung is clearly positioning themselves to transition to their Touchwiz'd MeeGo fork by continuing to make Android an afterthought to the enduser. I was certain Google would charge Moto with making a killer Nexus ASAP, but they recently announced there aren't any upcoming innovative or distinct devices planned at Moto.

The only thing I can imagine is Google some how thinks Glass is going to be an enormous and quick success, pushing smart phones to the curb.

I can understand Google initially buying moto for its patent library and to have some presence in the manufacturing of phones, but this is getting old. Google saying that they have to finish out the existing moto pipeline of product is complete bs to me. My dual core galaxy nexus is getting old real quick and the nexus 4 doesn't appeal to me as far as the lack of lte and having to deal with T-Mobile are concerned.

Not buying a company to strip it of its employees and instead licensing its IP?

That isn't what they said - their comment was that since the pipeline from design to production for a phone is 18+ months, everything that is being released in the near future will be from the pre-Google era at MMI, and not really that exciting.  Once that pipeline is cleared out, you should start seeing better phones coming out of Google.

pretty much this.

want to bash Google for being evil? how about preaching cutting corporate taxes to Irish levels, and then finding ways to even avoid paying those low rates.

Any chance the farkers that designed my android phone are part of the firing?

/damn thing is a POS, and AT&T should be collectively kicked in the nuts for recommending it.
