Not in my physical surroundings. But entirely, bizarrely inside my head. An image of the baby being snatched violently from the stroller by an assailant invaded my thoughts. "

And these people are allowed to vote.

Of course.  They vote Democrat.

Fear is a republican fetish, not democrat.

Let me summarize. Some chick who writes for CNN gossip columns went semi-crazy and her therapist said some women have symptoms of depression after childbirth, so it's like all women have it now.

"How to raise a snowflake."

/if the parents can't show courage, how can we expect the kids?

...mmmmno. This is biology. As a new Dad, I would occasionally have a flash while sitting at a stoplight -- some stupid drunk motherfarker was going to careen right through the intersection at 60mph and hit my car right behind the drivers's side door and rip the car in half, and my son would be scrambled in his car seat while I would be fine. The image would pass, the light would turn green, and I'd actually look around the intersection before going...just like they taught me in Driver's Ed in high school. I used to drive a little agrressively...now I'm not in such a hurry anymore, and I'm much more aware of my surroundings. It's not fear - it's common sense. And I don't want my son to pick up bad habits from me that will turn him into an asshat like I was when I was young.

Today...he's 2, and I'm totally OK with him climbing on big rocks in the back yard. He falls down sometimes, and has skinned his knee once or twice. Sometimes he cries, but I don't rush over and make a big deal out of it. When he's had enough, he stops. It's harder for Mom to be that hands-off, but she's getting better at it.

Usually though it's because they looked at mom's vagina during that final push.

DONT EVER DO THIS!!!!

Seconded. Although in my case, I was holding my daughter and happened to look over 'cause I heard the nurse tell my wife to push again. I thought I was getting twins, what I got was placenta. SPLURP. AAAAaaaagghh!

Yeah, this. Thank goodness for the internet. Without it, people wouldn't be able to share their neuroses on a global scale.
