Let me summarize. Some chick who writes for CNN gossip columns went semi-crazy and her therapist said some women have symptoms of depression after childbirth, so it's like all women have it now.

This happens to me often. Not daily, but at least once a week. It is vivid and heart-wrenching.
My son is two and I have terrible visions of him being hit by a car a la Pet Semetary.

Jae0o0: Didnt have the problem with my first child. Had it really bad with my second though. Mostly about SIDS or someone breaking into the house.

Seconded. Although in my case, I was holding my daughter and happened to look over 'cause I heard the nurse tell my wife to push again. I thought I was getting twins, what I got was placenta. SPLURP. AAAAaaaagghh!

I am not a mother [yet], but I have extremely terrifying visuals pop into my head when I am with my almost year old nephew. My sister-in-law asked me to get him out of his crib while she was cooking at Christmas, so I went upstairs, grabbed him and brought him to the stairs... Suddenly, I was certain that I was going to drop him down the stairs or fall down the stairs. I stood at the top of the stairs for at least two minutes. I switched him from one hip to another and head a death grip on the railing. When I got down the stairs, I sat on the couch and thought I was going to pass out. The kid, of course, is the most loving and adorable child ever, just snuggled me like he never thought I was untrustworthy or clumsy.

When he was younger, still in the infant carrier type car seat, I had him at my place baby-sitting him. I have two dogs and I was continually internally freaking out that one of the dogs (who were both smaller than the baby even at this time) would knock over the carrier and he'd be hurt. I doubt they could knock it over if both of them tried, but I was really worried. Strangely, I am not worried about them biting him, because, maybe, that's just too logical of a concern? Or, as my husband insists, our dogs are not dangerous to the baby. I really want them to be safe with the kid, but I could never ever leave them alone with him (or any kid) because we don't have kids of our own and we don't know for sure that they won't get spooked by grabby hands.
