Tubes of toothpaste have warnings about swallowing even small amounts of it. There's all kinds of evidence in plain view, the average person is just naive and stupid. A cover up isn't even needed. The primary ingredient in most comercial rat poisons is actually warfarin sulfate, a blood thinner. Much cheaper and more effective in small doses to have the rats bleed internally and die... On the other hand many various ingredients, but not exclusively fluoride, show up in mouse poisons because of higher populations and trickier hiding spots, something that attacks the CNS is quicker and makes for easier location before rot stink....

An average healthy adult can swallow a whole tube of toothpaste with little chance of negative consequences. It is a warning on the label because it may cause developmental issues in very young children...

The scariest part of this, to me, is that they're shutting down their direct phone line to Seoul.  We all know that the NorKos are never going to purposefully start a war they have no chance in Hell of winning.  But, some random officer on a cannon at the DMZ could get a little too amped up on patriotism and paint thinner, start firing pot shots into the South, and drag us all into a shiatpile because there's no longer a way for the two sides to immediately talk things out.

No problem! I've just met my fair share of them on FARK. The Revisionism is one of the reasons that the Chinese and Japanese still can't set in the same room with eachother. Unlike Germany, the Japanese shame comes from losing WWII, not from commiting acts of inhuman genocide.

2.1 Putting something in orbit, once, is 1/3 the difficulty of putting a ballistic missile up, and bringing it down with some vague semblance of accuracy.

A full blown nuke not in this life time.  But how hard would it be to take a normal artillery shell and load it with some nuclear material.  It be nothing more then a dirty boom.  But it would spread some bad stuff.

You do realise (just as an aside) that sodium fluoroacetate (aka 1080) hasn't really been EPA registered for use in rat poison for years, and its most common use is actually under fairly strict licensing conditions for poisoning of predators, right?  (And a lot of that is because 1080 really IS stonking dangerous, rather more dangerous to us primates and to carnivores like dogs and cats than to rats.  Probably the most widespread use worldwide anymore is in Australia and New Zealand to kill feral non-native animals--marsupials, as it turns out, aren't terribly sensitive to it.)

Sodium fluoride (and stannous fluoride, and Fluorostat or sodium monofluorophosphate) are rather different, and the main reason it's warned not to swallow them is the theoretical risk of fluorosis--basically causing mottling of the bones and (ironically) weakening of the teeth.   (1080 actually kills much quicker and a lot of its action is as a neurodisruptor.)

It's pretty much the difference between water, ethanol, and methanol--one pretty much won't hurt you unless you drink enough to throw electrolyte balance way out of whack or you immerse yourself in it longer than you can hold your breath, one starts getting lethally toxic around the 30ml/L level, and the last will make you blind at very best and quite likely kill you. :D

To get this thread back on its proper point, though...with this latest sillybuggers, I hope that if the Korean mountain gods exist that they have a very special place prepared for Kim Jong-Un, because he may have just proven he's the craziest pretender to the Korean throne since Prince Sado (who became known for his murderous excesses, and eventually was put down by his father King Yeongjo by being sealed in a rice chest for eight days until he died).
