The_Original_Roxtar: don't know about the chamber, but yes... you can plainly see that the safety is on.

Even so, are you unfamiliar with NRA safety rules? You develop a habit of always treating the gun as if it were loaded, even when you know it is not. Because one day, it will be loaded, and the safety will be off. This is when accidents happen.

Take an NRA safety course.

And, of course the Chinese military wasn't anywhere near Kuwait, if I remember the past correctly.

lol... okay.

muzzle is pointed roughly straight up (i.e. a "safe position")
putting the muzzle down on the ground risks fouling the barrel, making the gun unsafe to fire.

you really are clueless about firearms aren't you?

J. Frank Parnell: Lost Thought 00: Did you last study strategy in 1875?

You probably believe the invasion of Iraq was revenge for 9/11.

/just like you're supposed to

It wasn't? Last I checked, a bunch of pissed off Saudis attacked us because we based troops in their country. Rather than piss our allies off further, we just moved our troops north a little bit out of the holy land and took out a country that had threatened the allies of our allies repeatedly in the past. Win win situation for everyone, except, of course, Bin Laden.

Bunch of Pissed off Saudis, funded and supported by Iranians, Quatarians, Pakistanis, Saudis, and Kuwaitis, who were trained in camps located in Afghanistan, and who's command structure was hidden by not only the Government of Afghanistan a the time, but also the Pakistani ISI.

The_Original_Roxtar: muzzle is pointed roughly straight up (i.e. a "safe position")

Look at the photo again. The muzzle is clearly tucked into the hollow between the NKs collarbone and neck. NOT straight up, and NOT clearly over their shoulder, where they would only have to worry about killing the guy behind them. Would you rest the muzzle of your rifle in the hollow of your collarbone and neck if you knew it was loaded and the safety off?

The_Original_Roxtar: putting the muzzle down on the ground risks fouling the barrel, making the gun unsafe to fire.

Obviously, the only other position possible is to tuck it into your neck. There is no other position you can hold a gun in, other than jammed into the dirt, or into your neck.

See? Democracy CAN work on a global level. Who was Bush to ignore the consent of the masses that the United States should live up to its pledges of 1991 and finally leave Saudi Arabia? Not a single one of those countries was sorry to see Saddam go.

Between the ITGs and the videogame generals, this thread is a derpstorm of stupid. I'm glad we've got actual grownups in charge of foreign policy. KJU can say any stupid thing he wants. He can't attack anyone, because he has only a tiny handful of long-range missiles, and no nukes small enough to use as warheads. He can't invade South Korea, because he doesn't have the logistics ability to put an army in the field that could make it through the DMZ. He's talking out his ass, and the White House knows it, which is why they're ratcheting up the sanctions and ignoring the silly war threats.

If anything happens, it'll be some lame ass crap like shelling a South Korean island, or torpedoing one of their ships again.

seriously... look again:
this is a modern AK:

note the position of the front sight and how much the muzzle break extends beyond it. those NK might end up with a powder burn on their jackets, but they're not as you say "tucking the muzzle between the collarbone and neck". The biggest thing they need to worry about is hearing damage.

www.abc.net.au

Would I rest the muzzle of my rifle in the hollow of my collarbone and neck if i knew it was loaded and the safety off? of course not... but that's irrelevant because it's not what the picture shows. it shows a barrel resting against the shoulder, with no magazine and the safety ON. one can assume that these trained soldiers would feel similarly and would clear their weapon upon picking it up (like everyone who knows anything about firearms does)

let's look at the other possible positions shall we?
point it to the side: nope, people there.
point it forward: nope, people there.
point it backward: nope, people there.
point it at the ground: well, seeing as how loading a magazine is a 2 hand job, that means that the muzzle would have to be against the ground... which can cause the gun to literally explode in an accidental discharge if these soldiers are as stupid as you assume they are (i.e. they didn't clear their weapons) and could foul the barrel regardless of loaded state or accidental discharge.
that just leaves "up"
since they need both hands to load the magazine, and they need to keep it pointed up, how would you suggest they keep the rifle from falling over (potentially discharging that round you're certain is in the chamber despite the fact that safety is on)?

perhaps they could keep the muzzle pointed skyward with their shoulder, keep it from tipping with their right arm, and load the magazine at the same time... you know, like they're doing in the picture.

The_Original_Roxtar: (like everyone who knows anything about firearms does)

No, smarty, everyone who knows anything about firearms treats them like they are loaded at all times, because if you don't, there will eventually be a time when you forget, or take a chance just once, and that's when accidents happen.

The littlest middle NK probably has it past his shoulder, but the the other two, maybe not.

Anyway, this is obviously a posed photo.

Sounds like some Un needs a nap. And I know just how to deliver a nice sedative.

That's a nice gun for home defense.  I could take out a burglar and my neighbor's unpermitted second floor in the same burst.
