Now let's focus on getting girls to stop getting boob implants.

Girls don't put on makeup and clothes to impress boys.

They put on makeup and clothes to impress other girls.

I get by with a swipe of neutral eyeshadow, lip gloss and a moisturizer with an SPF alone, because sun damage will make you look even older than too much makeup will...but I'm also twenty-seven and look about twenty-one, so that may change if I ever start to age. My mom and sister spend like forty minutes a day putting on and later removing their makeup, but I just can't be arsed.

And yet I get more attention from guys, which Mom doesn't mind, but sister has always been puzzled by.

Like I tell her, 'Sis, if you know how to talk about cars, guns, gaming PCs and homemade beer and pick a shirt that makes the most of your natural assets, guys could not care less about eyeshadow.'

Hoopy Frood: She decided on a standard that she's pressuring other people to meet.

Lol, whatever.  You could argue that from some sort of technical semantic standpoint I suppose, but I think that really just misses the entire point.  Suggesting a voluntary no-makeup clause for ONE DAY is hardly some onerous new standard for girls to meet.  The gesture isn't about setting a new standard, it is about teaching people exactly what the current one entails and what its effects are.

Hoopy Frood: Who knows, maybe she naturally has a great complexion and it pisses her off that other girls can look like they do too with a little makeup.

... or maybe she hates wasting an hour every morning slathering on expensive makeup and thought it might be a nice gesture to drop the act for a day and show guys what girls look like underneath all the work they go through before school?  I think it's a nice idea as ineffectual well-intentioned teenage ideas go, and with luck a few guys will learn a little bit about the intersection between their expectations and the lives of real girls..

/Oh, we're talking about high school girls?
//My bad, I thought they were in elementary grades.

I didn't know HS girls wear makeup to school. I would hazard a guess only a small percentage does that anyway. When I was in HS most girls don't wear makeup albeit that was over 20 yrs ago but I doubt the typical HS girl today has change that much since then.

As a highschool girl in that timeframe, I regret to inform you that in fact the majority of your female classmates were caking that shiat by the pound, and then getting themselves high on AquaNet in the girls' bathroom.

FTA..."I just really began to see how I don't need makeup to be beautiful," said Madeline Milby, 17, vice president of the student congress and a senior at PSHS, which is in the Dallas suburbs. "There's so much more to me. It's your personality, your passion and what's inside your heart."

She sounds fat.

Don't wear makeup, personally, but hey, more power to you if you do. For me it is mostly out of laziness, being cheap, and the fact that I think it is bad for your skin. So far I am 31 and look somewhat younger. I am sure that genetics will catch up to me in a year or so and everything will fall apart.

/good for those girls, hope that they don't cheat

A couple things I've learned in my 46 years:

1.  Girls don't wear makeup and dress nice to impress the guys.  They do it to impress other girls.  They know guys don't give a damn.

2.  Wearing makeup daily is required in order to pull off the "I'm feeling sick.  You all mind if I cut my shift really short today" stunt at work.  A female supervisor told me years ago that anytime a woman says this, check to see if she is wearing makeup that day.  You may think she looks really sick, but it could be that she usually wears makeup and left it off that morning for a better effect.

3.  The best looking girls IMHO, were those 1970's sun bleached blondes that were tanned bronze from lifeguarding at the community pool all summer.  No makeup, just natural hotness.  Yeah, they're all wrinkly and melanoma stricken now, but hey, they gave a 10 year old kid a lifetime of memories.

This is Texas - I'd bet it's upwards of 90%.

High school in the South? More like 100% (at least when I was in high school) In the morning, the bathrooms were packed usually with girls who weren't allowed to wear makeup to school-putting on makeup. The girls who were allowed would be in there too-putting on more.

Don't worry, you are a redhead. Don't get fat, and marry rich.

Actually, redheads usually need all the makeup they can stand, since the majority of them are either strange looking, or average and forgettable.

They are also "unique" and "collectable" to fetishists.  It is a marketable attribute. Just keep in shape, and buy a sexy green or black dress when you turn 21, and go to a doctor's convention in vegas.

I have never worn more make-up in my life, nor spent so much time getting ready, than I did in my high school years. As a senior, switching into an all-girls school, it was a relief because no one more much make up if any at all and we could boycott shaving our legs and no one cared. Every boyfriend I've had preferred me without make up and I think the real key to make up is to enhance but not change. I like to even out my skin tone with a tinted moisturizer with SPF. Simple is better.

As someone who loves makeup and spends a crap ton of money on makeup, I regularly go without makeup.

I like giving my face a chance to breathe. And even when I do wear makeup the majority of it goes on my eyes. The only time I ever wear foundation is for pictures (ie family portraits, standing up in a wedding etc) otherwise it is tinted moisturizer mixed with a little illuminator.

Even with my heaviest hand I cannot match the amount of makeup I see some high school aged girls wearing. I have tried (I didn't go out that way) to over use bronzer, tried to give myself that stupid foundation line along the jaw, layered mascara and eyeliner and it did not come close to what they do to themselves. I have no idea what they are doing or who lied and told them that was acceptable.

/it takes me a loooong time to get ready
//I find doing my makeup relaxing

Ugh. Flashback to high-school: conservative (i.e. "plain") upbringing, and all the popular girls said "Yeah, we just rolled out of bed with perfect skin, straight hair and lovely lashes." And I BELIEVED them, and I HONESTLY couldn't figure out why I was the only ugly duckling of the world. Had never heard of natural makeup, didn't understand what hairdryers accomplished, had NO CLUE that well-fitting clothes made bodies look better. The Horror. Sure, one well-placed close friendship could have been enough to enlighten me, but I was a social pariah because of the hair/clothes/face thing.

I was twenty-six before I discovered what work goes into beauty, but by then was getting laid often enough that I didn't see the point in adopting the art. Even now I'm sure better clothes would help me get more respect at work, but I feel like a drag queen wearing them. So halfway happy ending. MY man doesn't seem to mind, and it saves us from clutter in the bathroom.

Wat?
How is not altering your looks at all "trying to meet her standard"?  I'd just call it looking like yourself.

She decided on a standard that she's pressuring other people to meet. If you like wearing makeup and someone pressures you not to, you're altering your looks to meet someone else's standard.

Who knows, maybe she naturally has a great complexion and it pisses her off that other girls can look like they do too with a little makeup. Maybe she found out someone she doesn't like has rosacea or something and wants to expose the truth about that biatch for all to see.

Haven't read the thread yet, but...

No... Really. Have you seen "Glamor Photography Studio" photographs of some people's S/O's on their desks?

Some people really do look better without makeup.

Some people look good in complex Victorian lingerie, some do better wearing nothing but a button and a bow. If you figure out your place in that spectrum then you'll probably look a lot nicer.

/ dammit, if you're happy, you're already going to *own* anyone.
