Right-wing butthurt is strong.  The history of synthetic dyes in food in this country is replete with bans and good evidence that they are mutagenic.  If the dialectic is between the natural colorants that they use in countries smart enough to force them to, and the synthetics they foist on people when they can, well America is a rich country.

But what I am really concerned with is my fellow farker.  How do you get so twisted that you sorry for corporations before people?  Was it some weird fad of right-wing iconoclasm in youth that calcified somehow in your adult cabesas?  Is it your anemic media diet?  What happens?

Twenty minutes sounds about right for actual prep time from scratch.  It'll take another 25-30 minutes baking, but you can go back to updating your blog while it does.

Generally I just use it to finish off whatever shredded cheeses have been sitting in the fridge the longest (so one or more of sharp cheddar, chipotle cheddar, pepper jack, habanero jack, etc.); the only addition I make is sprinkling mild paprika on top for color.

The alton brown one is SO good (I add 4 slices of diced bacon when I fold in the pasta) but it requires 3 pots, a pan, dicing an onion, tempering an egg, stirring/boiling the milk mixture... Ugh looks like my kitchen detonated. (Still, it's worth it)

That depends how the chemicals interact within the body. Do they get broken down? If so, into what compounds? Are those compounds filtered out by the body, or do they accumulate?

My wife makes homemade all the time, in about 20 minutes.  I didn't want to eat it at first, I've grown up loving Yellow Death (my dad's term for it).  Now I like homemade better.  I wish I could post a recipe, but I haven't made it myself.  She basically creates makes a roux and then adds milk and cheese to make it into cheese sauce.  We don't bake it, just pour it over noodles.

That's the recipe I use. I usually put bacon pieces in mine and serve with buttermilk biscuits. The biscuits always take longer than the mac and cheese to make because it's too damned easy.

I was just thinking the other day it would be awesome if they made Doritos mac and cheese packets. I would dip my whole tounge in the powder packet like it was fun dip.

When I was a kid everybody said the yellow dye in Mountain Dew would make you sterile. Haven't heard anybody claiming that in a while, so now the new thing is cancer.

I think what to take away from all this is that everything you eat is going to fark your body up in some minute way over time, short of a glucose drip. And doing that would probably give you stomach cancer or something because it's empty all the time so the stomach acids eat away at the lining.

Nobody's getting out of this thing alive, calm the fark down and enjoy what you can of it.

dammit, I want mac and cheese now.

Hmm, yellow 5 and 6 look like it would be fair to call for replacing them with annatto where feasible. They do have recognized issues, and that comment about yellow 6 having traces of carcinogen isn't unfounded.

But if you're really concerned, shouldn't you be feeding your children something better than mac 'n cheeze. I'm not talking granola and soy milk, but... Well, I guess knowing how to cook just isn't a thing anymore, is it?

no they are not--they are made in a factory.  a lab would be way too small of a place to produce the amount of dye that is produced on a daily basis.
