I wouldn't want to drop that habit there, buddy. Having habits like that will keep you from blowing the entire thing on stupid crap and declaring bankruptcy in 2 years.

Missouri isn't the South.

Maybe not geographically but in other ways it is very southern.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

First, people in Missouri don't have an accent... at all. I have done a lot of long-term business travel and after a couple weeks I develop the local accent. When I come back to Missouri my wife laughs at how I started talking.

Second,  Missouri is a purple state. St Louis, Kansas City, and Columbia are quite liberal. The rural areas and some suburbs are conservative. The last two major elections had us retaining a Democratic senator and two rounds of a Democratic governor, but Obama had no chance in either based upon his skin color. So we have racist attitudes, but just barely. Nothing like the South.

Third, that whole hospitality thing that the South has going on, yeah, we don't have that.

Fourth, we have winter.

My point is that Missouri, despite some issues, doesn't even come close to the South. We are our own brand of weird.

Ya know what? Good on these people.

FTFA: "The couple are also paying for a new fire station so the emergency service can have direct access to the local highways and a new ball field which will allow kids to play away from traffic."

Instead of nit-picking about sewage systems and whatever else, look at the other great things they are doing. Good on them.

Well... I live in southern Ohio... based on how many lifted and primered trucks sporting the rebel flag (there's a truck owner in Hamilton, OH who has a flagpole mounted in the truck bed flying the rebel flag) you wouldn't know it...

I always get a kick out of rebel flags in WV, OH, and PA.  Especially those in West Virginia, since they used the fact that Virginia went confederate as leverage to break away from the commonwealth.

Oh, and cool on the family for donating stuff.  If it were me, I wouldn't tell anyone I won (except maybe my wife), and I'd build a nice ranch on 1000 acres in Montana or something so everyone would have to leave me alone.
/I'm a real people person you know.

We wanted to be part of the South, but the Yankees foiled us. They took over the state house, and our leaders couldn't come up with an alternate meeting place where they could vote to secede. So they just said, "Oh, the hell with it. We ain't got nothin agin them New Yorkers anyways. We just want to kill Kansans."

Waste not want not: The Hills have opted to buy a sewage treatment center, like the one pictured, with their winnings

Yeah, I'm guessing that the sewage plant in that picture costs a tiny bit more than $50,000.

City officials were estimating it would take around 25 years to complete the treatment works so the couple stepped in donating $50,000. It will allow families in the town to do away with individual septic tanks.

Oh fark that.  They don't ALLOW you to do away with septic tanks, they demand you do it.  Then they demand yearly payments for your brand new sewer system.

If the town is really less than 500 people, a sewer system might not be necessary.  I'm on 45 acres, and people float the idea of a sewer system for our town every year because the 100 people who live close together could really use one.  The rest of us don't need it, and it would be needlessly expensive to put us on the line.  My family could rock Norovirus diarrhea every day for 100 years and not make any appreciable impact on the land.

Missouri isn't the South.

That depends on what part of Missouri you're in.  St. Louis is definitely the south.

I grew up in the South Bronx, and spent some time in Detroit, and Chicago.
St. Louis actually made me afraid.

Afraid? Of St. Louis?

[www.sabercultural.com image 325x450]

"What a wonderful world"

That's not Saint Louis, that's Satchmo.

Did I hear you say you wanted even more CSB?

I was only 6 years old, but still I have the pictures, and autographs.
We used to live a couple of doors down (1332 College Ave).from Cozy Cole, a legendary jazz drummer.
He was having a cookout with a bunch of his neighbors, us included, and some famous friends as well.
Louis Armstrong was in attendance.

I was playing with the Cole's Cocker Spaniel, when the dog decided that I needed a pierced earing, and that he should be that earing.
I ran around in terror for a few seconds, before the dog let go.

Hell I always considered southern Ohio as the "south" so why not Missouri/Missourah? Close enough to it anyway...

That's what I would do, or something similar.  I just wouldn't want that much money.  Sure, I'd quit my job and take some trips, but I'd give most of it away.  I'd live a life of modest luxury and fun and then get some shiat fixed up that needs it.

Scholarships is a great idea.  People needs college.
