Congratulations Charm City Roller Girls! Thank you modmins.

Ah Roller Derby on saturday as a kid.  I always liked it when the ladies had a wardrobe malfunction and popped outta their tops.  Happened often enough to keep me staying tuned and no one ever called the FCC.

I liked that the matchups are called "bouts."

Very cool... I have a friend here that broke off from the local league and helped start a second league here. It's a blast to watch, it's got a great family atmosphere, yet is far more entertaining than most family friendly shiat, and the girls are great. My 4 year old daughter is absolutely fascinated by the concept, so sometimes it's just me and her at the bouts, and the rest of the family stays home. If anyone's looking for a fun sport that is affordable, doesn't require you to spend an hour looking for a parking spot, and lets you actually meet the players face to face, I recommend this.

Local is flat track derby though, I'd love to see some teams on a banked track.

Roller derby can be great fun to watch.

As a gross over generalization the blockers tend to be big lumbering lesbians while the jammers are small, quick, and hot, and subject to unrequited crushes.

Also supposedly fun are the post match joint teams beer blasts.

I dated a roller derby girl for a year.  She had to quit because it was taking up too much of her time.  Apparently it's like a cult, something scheduled every night, and if you're not there your ass is on the bench. Plus the injuries were taking a toll.  Her lung was separating from the muscle around it due to repeated hits.

You'd think they would have let some jammers appear in the video.

I'm a LA Derby Dolls widower.  It's fun, and even faster on a banked track.  I'm glad my wife is now retired, though.

I used to go to local Roller Derby bouts at least once a month, but then they signed an exclusive beer sponsorship with PBR, and I stopped going.  But I heard they started selling hard liquor so I may go back.

Seconded.

I went for the first time recently. We took a couple of 8-year old girls, they are asking when they get to go again.

First time we went, my wife was ready to have our baby, and we were tired of waiting, we were hoping that by going out, Murphy's Law would kick in and she would go into labor. Didn't work, but my friend whose wife is on the league here thought it was the funnest thing ever when I told him that we tried to use Roller Derby to induce labor. :-)
