A caller named 'Doc' told Patrick, "I called their facilities manager and led a march of about 800 patriots from one of my Facebook pages."

Yeah, since Sept. 12, 2001, the term "patriot" has failed to impress me.

Doc also said he would head down to the corporate headquarters and take matters into his own hands if necessary.

"I'm ready to go down there. Eldridge isn't far from my house. I'll either remove the flag or I will put it at full mast," he stated.

The trespassing and other assorted charges will look nice on your record, "Doc".

Teddy wasn't satisfied with the company's explanation.

"I told the person that answered the phone that if she had a problem with raising the flag back up that I could come down and do it for her," he said.

See Teddy, here's the problem with that... It's not your farking flag, and it's not your farking property. It's also a private corporation, as opposed to a government entity. They can do whatever the fark they want, including flying it upside down. You also get to complain, but your don't get to "come down there" and "fix it".

The flag may only be lowered for the death of foreign dignitaries if indicated in Presidential instructions.

Bullshiat. You can do whatever you want. There are no actual LAWS about the flag. There are guidelines, and there are certain procedures that government entities have to observe, but there's no law. You can display the flag any way you want. You might get bad press for it, but there is nothing set in stone as that last line of the article implies.

CITGO is free to mourn Chavez's death, but they really shouldn't be lowering the US flag. For one, it is an empty gesture, the man wasn't American, and had no 'good' association with aAmerica. Lower the Venezuelan flag, fine, but not the US. Difference between me and the knuckle draggers is that even if I lived in Houston, I wouldn't be threatening to "come down and fix it", because I can actually respect private property.

I'm not saying I agree with signaljammer or Truth-out.org, but at least they gave some actual examples and numbers to back their argument.  Your "Crimes of Hugo Chávez " is pretty much one guy saying "He lies!  He's corrupt!" over and over.

Chávez was an ass and I'm glad he's out of power.  But find a better article if you want to convince people you're right.

You can do whatever you want. There is a flag code, but there is no law. You don't even have to bring it in when the weather is bad or shine a spotlight on it if you have it up at night.

I was going to ask. Is this a "thing" on Facebook? You can now have some kind of virtual "march"? Because if it is, it's the ultimate in "I'm pissed, but I'm just so goddamned lazy!!".

I was waiting for someone to say this.  You're not supposed to fly the flag at night, unless you shine a spotlight on it.  There are lots of way to violate the flag code.  CITGO violated the flag code, but so does my neighbor who doesn't illuminate his flag at night.  Although, my neighbor isn't a socialist dictator....

In my neck of the woods, I don't know what country I'm really in.  I see some of these "patriots" flying Confederate flags.  They won't accept the fact that the Confederate States of America lost a war 150 years ago and was conquered by the United States, and that the former Confederate states have been part of the U.S. since then.  Since many of them also fly U.S. flags, they must think that the Confederate States is really an autonomous part of the U.S.  They venerate that Confederate cloth as much as the U.S. one.  I also see an occasional Mexican flag around here as well.  I might as well be living in the Mexican Confederate States of America, or the Confederate States of Mexico.

If by "always" you mean "always in American English," then yes.   Commonwealth English has different rules.

Because we're not knee-jerk reactionary idiots like you.  Citgo is a Venezualan-owned company.  They can honor their dead leader if they choose, and flying a flag at half-staff is a pretty traditional way of doing that.  What's the big deal?

it's a violation of the Flag Code. Also, you'd expect them to lower the Venezuelan flag in honor of the Venezuelan President.
Additionally, meh

It's NOT a violation of the Flag Code.  Have you read it?  Likely not.  Here it is:

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/4/7

After you've read it, please come back and specifically point out what section you think is being violated.

nah, google told me otherwise. I suppose it is in keeping with customs and not contrary to law. Still meh.
You are rather incensed though.

When the thread is half-filled with know-nothing know-it-alls who haven't even read the goddamn flag code, but are SO SURE that some bullshiat interpretation they found on teh intarweb, or that their Uncle Gumbo told them when they were 9 years old, is correct, yeah I get a bit miffed.  Especially when it's so easy to google up the actual flag code.

This is what I read:

"October 6, 2011. In memory of Steve Jobs, US flags were hung at half-staff at Apple headquarters and Disney World. Those two displays are not in accordance with the Flag Code. However, at Microsoft's headquarters, the US flag flew at full-staff, and the Microsoft corporate flag flew at half staff.
Section 7m authorizes the President, the Governor, and the Mayor of the District of Columbia to half-staff the US flag in certain circumstances.  "

http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html

No reason to get so upset ...

Yeah, I know, it's no good for my blood pressure.

What you read is a mis-interpretation of the flag code, which actually states that only the Pres, the Govs and the Mayor of DC have the authority to ORDER ALL US flags flown at half-staff, and lists the reasons that they are allowed to issue such an order.

There I Was: Chapter 1 of Title 4 of the U.S. Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag.  It's a federal law, but one without punitive measures for failing to comply with it.

Per this law, only the President, state governors, or the mayor of Washington DC can order half-masting of the flag.

Can I do any more to highlight the words "advisory rules"?

Ironically republicans violate the flag code on a more daily basis than anyone else simply by putting it on everything.  Which is strictly prohibited.

And liberals are never guilty of being tacky

What you read is a mis-interpretation of the flag code, which actually states that only the Pres, the Govs and the Mayor of DC have the authority to ORDER ALL US flags flown at half-staff, and lists the reasons that they are allowed to issue such an order.

taking the code literally, flying the flag at half mast for Jobs would be a violation since he is not a foreign dignitary or other official

I don't think so.  The code doesn't prohibit individuals (or corporations) from flying the flag at half mast to honor whomever they want.

shiat's confusing yo.
Maybe it matters if there are local or state ordinances which regulate it - that could be what the code refers to

thats rather hypocritical.. getting pissy about people getting pissy about things you dont approve of because they dont approve of them.

I think all righthtinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.

Well, *I'M* getting sick of people thinking all rightthinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed-up in this country with being sick and tired.

I think my eyes almost just fell out

Geez, all those guys were doing was shaking hands. It's not like they were sucking face and holding hands in some kind of bizarre homoerotic display. That would be gross.

I sense a pattern here. You make shiat up, it angers someone, they call you out on it with facts, and all you can do is feign surprise at their anger.  But I see you've added a new move to your dismount: The Hairsplitter.

He owned up to it, let it go.  Pretty sure every one of us has made the mistake of stating something as fact, and then finding out it isn't true.  I know I have...

joeflood: Now that I think about it, they are doing the proper thing.  Flag etiquette dictates that one national flag should never fly above another, so if the Venezuelan flag is at half mast, all flags in the group should be at half mast.

You should let the Olympics in on this .

hehe I even looked that one up before posting. I don't have the Code memorized. I was only a Boy Scout for 1 year.

Without reading if someone else already said it, not one of those items is a flag.  They may be inspired by the flag, but they are not flags.

Enigmamf: Onkel Buck: Necronic: I have to wonder though if all those people banging on about the flag code actually know whats in it.   Like those little American flag napkins you like to bring out on the 4th of July, or that american flag shirt you wear to the rodeo?  Totally against flag code.

Ironically republicans violate the flag code on a more daily basis than anyone else simply by putting it on everything.  Which is strictly prohibited.

And liberals are never guilty of being tacky
[i26.photobucket.com image 313x430]

Wait, so you have to go back to the 60s to get a picture of a liberal wrapping himself in the American flag?

No I could have posted Katy Perry in hers but you jerk off too much already. Plus I know making fun of Abbie Hoffman really gets em riled up around here, he's like your John Wayne or some shiat

nekom: tallguywithglasseson:
But yeah, Citgo, as TFA states The flag may only be lowered for the death of foreign dignitaries if indicated in Presidential instructions
You don't just lower the flag to half mast when you feel like it. shiat heads.

Why not? Flag etiquette is, to the best of my knowledge, not codified in law.

Yes it is!  Thats why nobody ever wears the flag as a shirt and claims patriotism!
