I thought it was funny. Because it was implying that only a blind person could have missed all that lens flair.

His full name is Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch.  He's quite willing to make fun of his own name:

Benedict isn't exactly a popular name in the US, for obvious reasons, but this doesn't apply in the UK (partly due to the sides involved, and partly because we forgot the guy even existed). We still think of it as an old-fashioned name, but Mr Cumberbatch is of aristocratic extraction, and they like anything old-fashioned; it reminds them of when they still ran the country. (That said, I used to know a Benedict - although everyone knew him as Ben.)

In unrelated news, "Star Trek: Into Darkness" is expected to break records as the most-pirated movie of all time...

Seriously, Hollywood?  you DO know what happens when you don't give us what we want, right?  The world's going to watch this movie the second it's out, regardless of how legit the delivery method happens to be.

Dammit, this means those brits are going to know who the villain is before we do, so even if I get premier tickets, like I did for Star Trek 2009, I won't be one of the first to learn the name of the baddie.

No, I will not pirate the movie.  I actually want Star Trek to be a success, so I will see it in theaters to help the box office returns so their could be a third Star Trek movie, or better yet, another Star Trek tv series.

/Trek is better as a tv series

Your £9.30 will make all the difference.  As if you'd bother pirating it before the DVD is out.

Making a lens flare joke about Abrams is like making a screen wipe joke about Lucas, or a monster-cam joke about Raimi, or a shaky-cam joke about Spielberg, or a wide-shot joke about Leone, or a still-cam joke about Kevin Smith. EVERY director has some sort of stylistic signature. Lens flare is no worse than any other camera trick.

Except, of course, for bullet-time, which needed to stop after the third use of it.

I think the lens flare jokes are just the last resort of disgruntled Trekkies who can't stand that Abrams' continuity reboot actually did better in theaters than any of the last five Trek movies before it.

I can't wait for someone to reboot Bond in the same way: Kill off the current run, start up again in the 1960s, and ignore everything in the past two decades to regain focus and do away with dangling plot points.  And if they were smart, one they did it they would KEEP Bond in the 1960s and just use different actors, treating it like Doctor Who-- It's the same guy, but he keeps getting a new face (he's a SPY, right?)

You shut your whore mouth.

Skyfall rocked, it was quintessential Bond. Everything that made the older ones classics and enough modern style and flash to keep it fresh. Ohh and Javier Bardem was amazing in it.

Like The Avengers? Because that opened in the rest of the world before the US and it seemed to do okay at the box office....
