Well if there's an afterlife they can finally get together for a jam and see. Seriously their styles were incomparable.  Lee impressed me a little bit more as a kid.

Those two guys were the only reason I listened to that 8 track.

/Just kidding a bit. I love Ten Years After, but the Best Of Alvin Lee CD I bought on a lark contained some of the most boring, soullest songs I've ever heard.

11 minutes that changed rock forever. Whether that was a good or bad thing is in the eye of the beholder.

Yeah, I caught this the other week, actually.  (I'm more than ten years after, I guess.)  And I was like, now here's the Tea Party's anthem!

The Tea Party should be renamed "The Association of Confused People."  They know they hate rich people, because rich people have more money than they do.  So the rich people need to be taxed more to take them down a peg.  But they want to be rich, so they want less government involvement in the things that might make them rich.  But if they ever DO get rich, then they'll be taxed more, which they know they don't want.  So the rich shouldn't be taxed more.  And they hate big businesses that keep the man down, so they know they want the government to make sure big businesses don't get away with stuff.  But if they ever DO start a business, and it gets big, then it'll be messed with by the government, and clearly that's not good.

The best part is that they espouse these opinions individually with great fervor yet could not connect the inconsistencies between them if their lives depended on it.

Very true that this was the "breakout" performance for Alvin Lee and TYA (Woodstock in 1969), but they had already built a solid catalog of blues-rock albums prior to that.

For maximum enjoyment of some of the finest guitar playing ever done outside a studio give a listen to Ten Years After "Recorded Live"

This is my equivalent of your Jerry Garcia/Dimebag Darell/FZ/dead guitar player of your choice moment............it just saddens me.  Alvin Lee was that one guy I connected with early enough in my personal musical development that I knew I would follow throughout his career no matter what he did just because his stuff connected with me on the inside.  The sound of a TYA song on the radio (you never heard any of his solo material played) still gets my attention, and somewhere in my junk I know there is a ticket stub to the only concert  - "Ten Years Later" in 1979 - I ever got to see him perform.

So "Ride On", Alvin Lee.  You are 50000 miles beneath my brain today.

watched the video that Sliding Carp linked to, and
1) I knew very little about Ten Years After, and I certainly didn't know Ten Years after was British.
2) that English guy (Alvin Lee?) who speaks at the beginning (in his orig British accent) can sure sing in a damn good American blues voice! Holy crow!

Saw him at least 5 times. The man definately delivered the goods.

Sad news. Love the solo on I'd Love To Change The World, lots of notes but still very melodic.

My first concert was Ten Years After when I was in high school. Good show, bad date.

The people that don't know Alvin Lee or never looked into his solo work really missed out on a lot of great music. What a legend and wonderful how he changed the world especially mine. He will be sorely missed.
