Avs suck.

2013-03-06 11:53:27 PM
I wonder if the Avs will win the return match now that Chicago hit a milestone. Chicago is due to lose one of those fluky 1-0 games at some point where they hit the post 2 or 3 times and give up a PP goal.

2013-03-06 11:54:27 PM
I never expected Carcillo to step up with some late-game heroics... but still, that was one hell of a game. I didn't get to watch it on TV, but I managed to at least catch the third period on the radio.

2013-03-07 12:01:26 AM
I don't think the Avs thought their cunning 5 forward power play strategy though. That was a really bad shortie they gave up.

Do they just not have any offensively skilled defensemen?

"Inconceivable!"

Halfway through half a NHL season is more accurate, isn't it?

MaudlinMutantMollusk: Halfway through half a NHL season is more accurate, isn't it?

OK, so a quarter of the way through a *real* NHL season.  They've still gone a quarter of a season without being defeated in regulation, and have what?  94% of the maximum possible points they could have earned by now?

C'mon, it's still dammed impressive.

No, they do. That's all they have in the pipe pretty much. Barrie, Elliot, etc...hence the Shattenkirk trade. Joe Ball Sacco is just an EXTREMELY shiatty coach (I love to play farkin Hunwick instead of calling up some promising prospects ahem*Siemens* ahem) . I boo his stupid ass every time I'm at a game, which is 30+ times a year. I know someone so I get in for cheap as free but still. Fark Joe Sacco. Varlamov is a great goalie but his defense is complete shiat. Srsly. O'Byrne is their top D man right now. EJ is okay but he's out of the lineup, Wilson is meh and he's out too. They have nothing on D.

Landeskog and Matty Du are amazing players. The only reason they matched Rhino's offer was that the situation between the Avs and the very precious tens of real fans in Denver became a shade away from toxic. Excuse the pun but they're on thin ice here, even the CHL Cutthroats are more popular.

The only reason I keep coming back to the Avs is Super Joe. I believe in Sakic (Kickass backwards as a drunk explained in the restroom last week at a game). At least everyone on the team is like, 20 goddamn years old. Le Sigh.

I hear you, but from a different side of town. After the Hawks season wraps up, at least we can both larf at New York's impending terrible, horrible, no good, very bad baseball seasons.

They picked a good year to suck, with Seth Jones likely to be an impact player right out of the gate. Just need to get the #1 pick in the draft though.

I remember when Phoenix traded him to Philly a few years ago, I said on here that Philly fans would love him at times and be pissed off at him at other times. He's done nothing but prove that throughout his career. He's Raffi Torres with less offensive ability.

Speaking of him, any word on if Hossa will be available anytime this week?

94% is just about right (93.75% if you want to be pedantic). And they've surrendered 13 out of a possible 48 pts to opponents (7 OT/SO wins, 3 SO losses), a 27% clip.

And as I said the other day, the sickest thing about the streak is that their only "losses" were in shootouts. No losses while playing actual hockey. I think that some people actually forget that when talking about it.

Leafs are going to bully the Bruins thursday night. Kessel is going to fight Seguin. She's going to be a barn burner.. since it's in Boston I'll say it is going to be a donnybrook

Will CM Punk (from Chicago) end Takers streak at Wrestlemania?
Will lightning hitting the Blackhawks airplane end the Blackhawks streak?

Which one is more likely?

Should be. He has a "day to day upper body injury". He was probably hung over or something today.

You've said a lot of retarded shiat in your day, you may have just topped all of it.

The B's are coming off a loss to the Capitals. Let me repeat that, a loss to the CAPITALS.

Albeit one where they choked up a 3 goal lead. You wanna walk into the buzz-saw?

Hey, they held the US National team to a 4-4 tie in a meaningless exhibition so.. yeah!

The Blackhawk's season is exactly the miracle the NHL needed to avoid the talk of being relevant and being the league that shoots itself in the foot.

Lots of Av fans are butthurt over the Bolland no-call on the slash that lead to the goal, among some other reffing decisions from the game. Sucks, but you gotta be up by more than 1 in third vs the Hawks, they WILL score with less than a minute to go, it's a given.

Swoop1809: I don't think the Avs thought their cunning 5 forward power play strategy though. That was a really bad shortie they gave up.

No.

As an Avs fan I'd written off this season before it started due to the lockout, and the injuries and O'Money holding out didn't help, either. I've been saying for a few years that once the new CBA was done it would be time for the Avs to go from rebuilding to competing. I've put that on hold, given them a mulligan for the year. But no more excuses or patience after this season. They've had their time to get the pieces in place, make their adjustments. And when the team is healthy (ha!) they don't look half-bad. Save for that defense, which is woeful. They've got one top-pairing guy, one 2nd pairing guy, a lot of bottom-pairing guys or press box protagonists and a handful of young talent that the jury is still out on. I'm not sure that can be fixed over the summer, but hopefully some of the young guns step it up and let Wilson (whom I like a lot, by the way) settle in as the 5th d-man.

And, hey, maybe Ryan O'Reilly will play up to that $6.5M payday next year. And maybe when the monkeys fly out of my butt they will bring whiskey with them.

2013-03-07 05:42:24 AM
I've seen the Red Wings do this kind of thing before. Not straight out winning, but mostly winning. The first time was 1995-1996, when they dominated the regular season,62 wins if I remember, but lost to the Avs in the conference finals. The Wings would make up for it the next year by having a less spectacular regular season but winning the Cup without any series going more than 6 games. The next time was in 2001-2002. They ended up winning until about March, when they lost 10 of 12 or something of the last regular season games, then the first 2 games to Vancouver. They pulled it out, winning the next 4 in that series, and won the Cup that year.

farking Bruins... All of a sudden, they can't hold onto a lead and are playing sloppy as hell.

They need a strong bounce back game.

2013-03-07 06:21:03 AM
I came to the conclusion that the Red Wings have farther to go than I thought when I watched the Chicago game. We self destructed not once but twice. I could only stare at the screen in silence as the puck floated over the glass. Then after Chicago scores in about 20 seconds Kronwall (our #1 defenseman) does the same exact farking thing. It was that moment that I realized the Red Wings don't have the players to win the cup.

I really wish the league would make up it's mind which conference the Wings will be in as it might be interfering
with Detroit's ability to make trades.

I hope they do go undefeated.  It will be funnier when no one still cares at that point.

Hope Sharp is ok, he looked pretty dazed when he went to the locker room. I'm sure we'll hear all about the "upper body injury" shortly.

Hoping to have an excuse to buy another one of these in a few months... nothing's a given, especially after 1st round exits the last two years.

They aren't undefeated now. They have 3 OT loses. In the NHL you still get a point for OT loses, thus their points streak.

Leaf fan here, so I've not really been following the Av's especially this year without any East-West play, but we have a few (kinda expensive) D spending way more time in the press box than they deserve, that might help, but I just had a spin through the Av's roster, and I'm having a hard time finding anyone we might want back in a trade... I've got to be missing someone... Matt Duchene maybe but I'd imagine he'd be about as close to 'untouchable' as anyone on that line up...

I think you are 100% correct, and in the coming shuffle I actually want Detroit to move to the east. I don't know how the hell Chicago pulled that win out of their ass that last game because Howard was a farking genius most of the game. He made saves where I could have sworn would have been goals and was a monster in the paint despite the heavy Chicago presence there.

I think after playing 1000 games and hitting a crazy streak we can afford him a day or two off

I thought it weird as well. Would have rather watched the game on CSN because NBC's play by play man grates on my nerves. And please tell me I am not the only one who wants to punch Pierre in the throat.

I like that it's getting headlines for the league around the nation.

I dislike that none of you western conference teams have the cajones to knock these guys off. Time to call the 1972 Dolphins out of retirement and teach them how to skate.

I believe it is customary for your fellow fans to offer things for Stastny. Bozak is a popular choice. It used to be Kadri, but then he started to do some stuff, so he's right out.

Glad subby called this what it is. Colin Cowherd is, at this moment, addressing just why this is shouldn't be described as a "winning" streak.
