iheartscotch: I've always agreed with Germany on drunk driving. Driving is a privilege. You get convicted of drunk driving once? No more licence for you; ever. Plus huge fines and 30 days in jail.

Yogimus: vrax: Yogimus: Mandate criminal back-ground checks on all vehicle purchases. Require transfer of automobiles illegal between private individuals, and make it illegal to own a vehicle if unlicensed. Make violations of these crimes expensive, to pay for their implementation.Good point!Oh, wait! I meant, you're an idiot!Silly typos.Explain the flaw in the proposition, if you would please.
freetomato: I am ashamed to say I got a DUI in '02. I blew a hair over the legal limit and was pulled over by a married cop whose advances I spurned a couple of days before. He was waiting for me. Fact remains, I should not have been driving, and I am eternally grateful I didn't hurt anyone. They didn't just throw the book at me, they beat me over the head with it. First traffic violation ever, in my 30s. 6 months of AA meetings, with an attendance card signed, only driving to work and back, attend DUI classes and substance abuse class, 40 hrs of community service and paying a probation officer for meeting him weekly. And the fine. And 24 hours in jail. Over 8 grand all told and my eternal contrition. Never again. In a weird way I am grateful for the lesson learned. I could not have lived with myself if I'd hurt anyone. What's a pisser is that the same day I was nabbed, a prominent Atlanta preacher drove drunk and killed someone. Slap on the wrist. I guess he could afford a good lawyer.
moonscatter: cman: I knew someone who was much older than me who lost his entire family to a drunk driver. This was back in the 70s, and know how much jailtime he got for three deaths? Two years. Two damn years.I am sorry but if you took a life because you decided to drive while intoxicated you deserve a harsh penalty. Sure, you didnt intend to kill them, but nonetheless, the action you took led to their deaths.Along with that, we should harshen the jail sentences of DWI/DUI arrestees. 15 year prison sentences will kind of motivate people to not drink and drive, wouldnt you agree? As a victim of a drunk driver who shouldn't have survived, thank you.And if you look at Scandinavian countries, there is almost zero tolerance of drunk driving. I think you lose your license for a year for the first offense and ten years for the second.. it's been a while but it is severe enough that my cousins are always careful...
hnb: Yay! Another 'burn the drunk drivers' thread! Let's all get our righteousness on!
ubermensch: Wait, what happened to all the people here on fark who would cheer this guy on to achieve a high BAC score? Because, you know, drunkenness is funny and should be commended.

hardinparamedic: WILL GEORGE ZIMMERMAN'S BLOODLUST EVER BE SATIATED?!!?!?!?!In all seriousness, this guy should be pillared, and everyone in America should be able to kick him square in the balls for a dollar a swing.
BarkingUnicorn: No, but these two share a strong resemblance.
Grand_Moff_Joseph: Crush his ass in a small car, then push it in the East River. Don't waste a single taxpayer dollar dragging this ass through court.
