Crush his ass in a small car, then push it in the East River.  Don't waste a single taxpayer dollar dragging this ass through court.

I knew someone who was much older than me who lost his entire family to a drunk driver. This was back in the 70s, and know how much jailtime he got for three deaths? Two years. Two damn years.

I am sorry but if you took a life because you decided to drive while intoxicated you deserve a harsh penalty. Sure, you didnt intend to kill them, but nonetheless, the action you took led to their deaths.

Along with that, we should harshen the jail sentences of DWI/DUI arrestees. 15 year prison sentences will kind of motivate people to not drink and drive, wouldnt you agree?

Sounds like a plan.  for example, the CEOs of every company that got bailed out has to surrender all of their non-salary compensation to their employees and retirees.  Their crime?  Fraud and financial theft.

All members of the KKK are racist, but not all racists are members of the KKK

Not all bailed-out banks were committing fraud.

I've always agreed with Germany on drunk driving. Driving is a privilege. You get convicted of drunk driving once? No more licence for you; ever. Plus huge fines and 30 days in jail.

From brainiac-dumdum's link:

"The reason for his nickname ( 50 Cent) is the subject of debate. Some say it was his half-pint height, others that no amount was too small for him to rob. He owned a gold-colored Jetta, but he was not given to using a getaway car. He simply strolled away from robberies and shootings, even on busy streets in broad daylight. He seemed not to fear anyone."

Impulsivity runs criminals. Some will be deterred, but in the end, no punishment will really make a difference. Henry VIII executed those guilty of heresy in the most gruesome, bloody, painful, torturous methods possible. Result? Just as many heretics.

My step sister was killed by a drunk driver who ran a red light. It was her 6th or 7th dui. She was out within 5 years.

If you cause someone's death while driving drunk, you deserve to be incarcerated for decades. Drunk drivers make a choice to not get a sober ride or walk home. There's no excuse.

"His demeanor was unremarkable,"

in other words, he acted like an anus.

i kind of think that three dead people, including a baby, negates the 'spiffy'ness of the guy getting caught. but maybe the baby would have grown up to be the next Hitler, but with nuclear weapons and super-SARS; the whole thing would be spiffy then, i guess.

Drunkenness is funny. Driving drunk on the other hand is inexcusable. Drink at home or plan ahead.

How about revocation of their license for 6 months first offence, and their car impounded for a year for the second. They pay the impost fees.

Why don't we take the recidivism into account and create a registry of these offenders.  Then, pass local legislation that forbids them from living, working, or being within 500 feet of any establishment that serves or sells alcohol and also ban them from ever getting into any wheeled transportation even as a passenger.  Skateboard?  no.  Unicycle?  no.  I don't care if they had a heart attack at a McDonald's, they can walk their stupid selves to the nearest hospital.  (I guess technically a helicopter doesn't have wheels, but, whatever)

/seriously, I would sign that petition.

I'm not because these overtly punative measures are like a scarlet letter and then ruin their lives long after their DUI and then they become unemployable burdens on the taxpayer.

Like maintaining roads and HSR and nationalized healthcare to keep overall costs down, most other countries have very harsh DUI laws which then don't cause the offender to become a burden on the taxpayer.

This is why HSR and other local transit systems are important: To provide transport to those who can't drive or shouldn't.

When a drunk driver kills a family in a hit and run, you expect people to be nice and understanding to him?

No one forced him to get intoxicated and get behind the wheel. Sorry. No dice.

While alcoholism is a medical problem, the moment you decide to perform an action that endangers innumerable people and cost two lives is the moment I stop feeling sorry for you
