megarian: detroitdoesntsuckthatbad: megarian: Hey now!!! WTF is wrong with Detroit!?!*looks out window*Oh.Oh hai guyz, what's going on in this thread... oh lawdI nominate YOU for the new Emergency Manager position!!!
Glenechocreek: I grew up in Akron, a dull, run-of-the-mill town if there ever was one. Cleveland made it seem like Paris by comparison.Speaking of dull, you should visit Calgary. Their idea of group sex is using both hands.
SuperT: come to cincinnati. we're revitalizing our urban core, we've got jobs a plenty, and, 2015 all-star game. plus, hella cool neighborhoods.
johncb76006: But it's still Cleveland even with the tax abatement.
Rapmaster2000: Chattanooga is doing the same thing for software engineers to buy homes in specific neighborhoods. Of course, the tax breaks don't make up for what you could make working in a more tech-centric city, and more broadly what you give up by tying yourself to a mortgage in a city with a dearth of those type of jobs.I hear the outdoorsy perks of the city are nice though.
lack of warmth: Not sure how tax abatements will matter, if there is no job to pay for the other expenses. Sure tax breaks are nice, however not having the jobs to support their families, many won't be able to return to Detroit. Now if many moving to Cleveland are the same people building the new residential properties, then that seems like a little short term planning. After awhile those jobs will cease. Now if Cleveland has some new industry planting itself there, then good for them.
Disciple_of_Trogdor: I'd still rather live here in Cleveland.

GOD HATES CLEVELAND
CavalierEternal: The unemployment rate in Cleveland has dropped nearly 4% over the past two years, now at 8.5%. There are big restoration projects going on throughout the city, including an almost total reconstruction of the Flats and what Dan Gilbert describes as as a "little Time Square" that will be finished in the area around Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena by 2017. We have a great theater district, a thriving music scene, great restaurants, some of the best hospitals on the planet and a constant stream of revenue from studios shooting movies here all the time. Yeah, it's cold and rusty and you're putting your life at risk by stopping at red lights in East Cleveland, but Cleveland as a whole doesn't suck nearly as bad as the rest of the country (the high majority of them having never been here and only going off of what they saw in the Cleveland Tourism Video) would make you believe.Yeah, what he said! ^
Dissociater: What is Cleveland's economy based on now that Lebron James is gone?
