Nytfall: al's hat: Shostie: Kind of agree.

If I had money I'd invest it in hearing aid manufacturers.

This, this, this!

For years I warned my now 25 year old step-son to turn his friggin' headphones down or he would damage his hearing.  I'm almost twice his age and my hearing is far better than his at this point.  He admits I was right but it's still incredibly frustrating to have to repeat myself ad nauseum when trying to have a conversation with him.

Wow.  Same age stepson, same warnings, same outcome.  Are you my secret alt?

I have a feeling that there are a lot of us...   :(

lack of warmth: twfeline: How do you make a quiet jackhammer?

I am really curious about that one myself and you beat me to the post.

mllawso: SideshowRaheem: The earbuds allow a lot of outside noise in
I've found the opposite to be true -- earbuds are essensially ear plugs with a tiny speaker in them.  Unless you've comparing those huge studio style headphones that seems to be popular with kids now -- those block out everything.

I say bring back these (the headphones, not the walkman).

NO.  The sound quality sucked with those things.  I prefer the big headphones like the ones that are making a comeback right now, you know covers the whole ear.  Also easier to block outside sound without cranking the volume too loud.  I know it makes me sound old, but they work when you are homeschooling kids who might otherwise get distracted.

Wearing full headphones right now so I'm getting a kick...yeah, I sound old too.

As long as we keep him confined to NY, let him do what he wants, no innocents will be hurt.

Same thing, my dad to me.  Now I'm middle aged and have hearing loss.  Said the same thing to my step-daughter.  Her exact response, "you don't know," while rolling her eyes.  I'm sure the little biatch will have serious hearing loss in her future.

Old people can't hear well and complain when there tinitus acts up or something. Oh and sex doesn't do it for them anymore. Jeez that would suck. I'd probably have to buy something or somebodies to compensate. Is slavery legal yet?

Just imagining the loss of sexual appetite rages me. I fell like going crazy just thinking about it. I. Want. To. Ban. SUNSCREEN!

Sunscreen is killing our children. This acceptance of "tanning" is death. Pure cancer in a light. It's as easy as this to kill a child. Why. Won't. Anyone. Think. Of. The. Children!!!!!

/and i'm done.

rmdpgh: I'm not saying reduce the capacity of MP3 players

Why not? He reduced soda and magazine capacity. Why not MP3 players? In the best interest of New Yorkers Bloomburg, MP3 Players should be limited to 256mb of music. Thats enough for about 40 songs. Nobody needs to listen to more than 40 songs at a time, anyway. But if you want more than 40 songs, you can just purchase another MP3 player.

that's smart because the boomers are losing their hearing.
Which is actually great for me. It means insurance cares about hearing aids now. Batteries are easier to find, people gawk at aids less. It's like the only positive thing the Boomers have ever done.

\How sad that the Boomers greatest contribution is losing their hearing.

this is something i've never understood: why is it that eyeglasses to help you see can be fashionable? walking canes can be fashionable? hell, i've even seen people in their wheelchairs or rascals all blinged out

but hearing aids ?  oh no. be ashamed and try to hide it by jamming it halfway to your brain or make it 'old people beige'  and hope it blends in with skin tone.

why not make them fashionable?  for christsakes people wear gold & diamonds on their teeth!

as to your scorn for the Boomer generation - did your dad not love you enough or something?

/what!?!? oh, yes.... that is indeed my lawn. why do you ask?

I have to imagine that it's partially because the aid is a tool no one likes. It's not really viewable as a fashion accessory because of teh overwhelming disgust people have with needing and wearing one.

KrispyKritter: DamnYankees: Hey idiots (meaning commenters above) - this is a public awareness campaign. He's not making anything illegal.

Holy shiat, a post worth reading. But I do enjoy the many whiners writing hate that don't even live in New York. It's good to look for something to biatch about.

You're right. We should just stop complaining about him and instead tell our own Mayors that we should send our police officers to NYC to conduct operations and set you ignorant assholes straight. If you aren't going to live like we think you should then you will be giving us no choice but to force you to.

Did someone say "beige"?

I've seen the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".

It just seems appropriate to the story.

Well, since they can't read they at least have to be able to hear so they can take orders properly. God knows that people hate repeating that they do in fact want fries with their burger.
