Doesn't this just prove that Fartbongo is a socialist?

A poor one, mind you... but a Socialist none the less!
(Insert ignorant rage here!)

This doesn't prove anything. It's just the Bush recovery taking hold.

Look! Over there! It's a Benghazi

The stock market as an indicator of the health of the economy ended when they started to allow day traders. Then it became nothing more then legal gambling. The only useful knowledge it could deliver is if the people in the market were feeling bullish or not. That ended when micro trades started. Unless something major happens (ie:wars or national disasters) the stock market is off the rails.

It doesn't matter who is in the white house, i've always said this. I've also said this when it was going down

No, it hasn't, subby. It's well below the 2000 peak if you adjust for inflation, as you should. The only thing more fake than the DJIA is movie box-office sales.

How long until the big crash of 2013?

I'm working in NYC and staying at a hotel half a block from Wall St.  This afternoon, I noticed a bunch of big SUV limos (I guess the deutsche bank bigwigs finish their workday at 3) and thought to myself 'Those things are probably armored and packing heat.'

You know, I'm in the market for stocks, but when I went to the stock market, they didn't have any stocks in stock.  All they wanted to sell me were these stupid little pieces of paper!  I kept telling them that, no, I wanted stocks.  Eventually I socked those stock brokers for giving me the run-around.  If only I could find some damn stocks, I could have really given them what-for.

Still wanting to buy some stocks.  Seems there just isn't a market for such things these days.

I'm glad I wisely invested my money in beanie babies

The market is artificially inflated by the government buying up mortgaged backed securities and bonds. It is equivalent to a store owner inflating his prices and buying his own inventory. Yes, the store owner is going to have record sales but eventually he will go broke. When it hits the fan (and it will) we are all going to be in a world of hurt.

How do "successful" Ponzi schemes work again?

Oh yeah, they pattern themselves after the DJIA.

So what you're saying is that trickle-down economics has now been conclusively disproved, and no conservative should ever try to  bring it up again, right?

Corporate PE levels are well below 10 year averages.  The job market keeps slowly, steadily improving.  And housing, which usually leads a recovery, is finally picking up.  But of course, the sky is falling.

So, compensating for the gold value bubble we are looking at a stable flat-line with hiccups after 9/11 and '08 fiasco?

No, seriously, this is me

but I have to wonder about that context

... is there a more stable, less-manically-traded precious metal we can use? Someone has to have found a better measure of true market value

The expectation of inflation and expectation of devaluation of a nation's currency are the primary causes for stock prices to rise. The government can also ensure a rising stock market by taking the profit out of lending.

but we have a jobs problem and it's gotta be socialism's fault!

I can't imagine what powers that be might be really really interested in keeping taxes artificially low so they dont have to pay anything for this either.. no one~sarc

For those that haven't seen this movie before, this is the part where the average Joe (the same guy who panic-sold in 2008) decides it would be a really good idea to go "all in" on stocks again...especially on those HOT-HOT-HOT! sectors, like tech or financials.

Hilarity ensues.

Ok Let me get this straight... We cut a fraction of a planned government spending and the economy suddenly starts to take off.  Ummm.... I have a suggestion.  Lets cut more spending and see what happens.

It's like they want the world economy to fall apart either for the "I told you so" or to finally get some use out of their survival bunker.
