Sit down, you twit.

2013-03-06 02:37:29 PM
He just Godwin'd his filibuster.

This is what filibusters should look like.

For as much of a loser the guy is, at least he's doing it the way it should be done.

This I can agree with.  However, filibustering a nomination because of other policies you don't like is just being a dick.  You want to filibuster those policies? Then do so when bills that have something to do with them are up for a vote.

Senator Lee will join @senrandpaul on the Senate floor at 2:45pm ET. #filibuster

He's actually making some excellent points right now. Very excellent points.  But yes he should be talking *specifically* about the nominee right now.

Was the use of drones in the US in a bill or was this done by Executive Order?  (not rhetorical.  IDK but I think it may be the latter)

It's such a goddamned shame that modern libertarians push such awful economic policy (save drug policy, but they don't understand *why* they're correct on drug policy).

2013-03-06 02:52:05 PM
Oh for fark's sake.  If Obama had an (R) next to his name then drone strikes would be a sacrament.   We'd have stickerbooks of "Droney the Drone" in every school and penny drives to have them painted with high school mascots.

2013-03-06 02:57:09 PM
*waiting for RP to tie all of this in to the nominee, as... this is... supposed to be... a nomination*

I think Sen. Paul would have a problem with this also.

The Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF)
Also Brennan has stated that "as a matter of domestic law, the Constitution empowers the President to protect the nation from any imminent threat of attack."

2013-03-06 03:02:25 PM
Okay, now I want to see these guys talk about how corporatism has utterly mangled due process and liberty.

*9000 years later*

still waiting

PreMortem: Also Brennan has stated that "as a matter of domestic law, the Constitution empowers the President to protect the nation from any imminent threat of attack."

Since when is that concept new?  I mean, for sure, we can argue the definition of imminence until the cows come home but there's nothing controversial about such a statement, on its face.

2013-03-06 03:06:00 PM
So he's going to collapse in exhausion?

Which Senator is going to attempt suicide in the back chambers?

2013-03-06 03:06:41 PM
You lazy bastard, someone finally does a real filibuster can you don't even do it by yourself like you're supposed to.  But at least it's a real filibuster.

What happened? Is the feed worth watching? I figured I'd just wait for MSNBC and FOX to boil it down to the most embarassing and most awesome moments, respectively...

He started waxing poetic about how much Jimmy Stewart would beam with pride over Paul's filibuster.  Approaching GHEY territory.

Yeah, but really smart theater, politically speaking. I'm surprised nobody thought of this sooner. Everyone hates cowardly, anonymous filibustering, so Democrats will give him a walk on this while it will make him a folk hero to his supporters. The only risk I can see is that he's bound to say some stupid shiat if he intends to speak for hours, even if his remarks are prepared. There is always some degree of ad libbing.

2013-03-06 03:21:04 PM
I can't believe I'm agreeing with Rand Paul but here we are. And good on him for actually filibustering.

Considering we're talking about one of the very few people who spoke up against indefinite detentions in the NDAA 2012, I would think you'd be right.

/stopped clock, etc, though...

coco ebert: I can't believe I'm agreeing with Rand Paul but here we are. And good on him for actually filibustering.

Agreed. Instead of just threatening to do so.

thismomentinblackhistory: There is always some degree of ad libbing.

He should have one of his aides go fetch him some Tolstoy or something.  AFAIK, you can keep on blabbing until you take a seat and/or stop.

So when we start saying libertarians/stopped clocks are right more than once a day?  Drug war, civil liberties, drone strikes, antiwar, etc.

haha GET A BRAIN MORAN

/sorry

THIS.  Put up or shut up.  Threatening to filibuster shouldn't even be considered as a filibuster.

MattStafford: So when we start saying libertarians/stopped clocks are right more than once a day?  Drug war, civil liberties, drone strikes, antiwar, etc.

Were talking about Rand Paul, not Libertarians.

Hooray for actual filibusters!

And hooray for waiting for Rand Paul to have the inevitable potty emergency!

2013-03-06 03:33:48 PM
What he's talking about now echoes back to the NDAA 2012.

And I gotta bail.  Too bad.  I'll have to see if this is still going after work.

2013-03-06 03:33:59 PM
I thought I heard thousands of Paulians masturbating.

2013-03-06 03:34:09 PM
So this is about the minute possibility of using a drone strike in the US in response to a terrorist attack in order to prevent further death and destruction?  So according to the GOP, torture against US citizens is fine and dandy to "keep us safe," but use of lethal force against a clear and present danger is not, so long as that lethal force comes from an airplane without a person inside it?

Do I have this right?

2013-03-06 03:34:52 PM
Jesus, I really, really, REALLY hate this filibuster bullshiat, it has no place in our government anymore. Anyone who uses it should have their genitals fed into a paper shredder, followed by being fed into a wood chipper 2 millimeters at a time, with all the necessary IVs and medical personel on hand to make this last as long as possible.

Now THAT would be a filibuster...

Gosling: Hooray for actual filibusters!

Two words: trucker bomb.

/senator bomb?
//hope the FBI doesn't think I'm making threats
///because that would .... *puts on sunglasses* ... piss me off.

2013-03-06 03:34:53 PM
Was in a waiting room with Rush playing about an hour ago: he was saying that Rand Paul is right about this (a feeling I have a hard time disagreeing with)... because Obama wants this power not to target terrorists but to murder rich people since Congress refuses to raise their taxes anymore. Good, I was worried that I was agreeing with Rush.

2013-03-06 03:35:23 PM
Is there really a difference between a drone and a police officer?  Both are government controlled and authorized to kill citizens on US soil.  Sure, one does have a little more paperwork involved but still...

I would've given him props if he pulled down his pants, dropped a deuce on the floor, nonchalantly pulled up his pants and continued on.

No, it's about talking about ANYTHING to block the nomination of an individual...
