Even Croft's famously pneumatic body has been toned down to something more realistic.

Lara's only point has ever been to be a platform to carry her boobs around.

$60

Eh, the Tomb Raider series was stale and needed something new.

Besides, Crystal Dynamics made the engine behind Deus Ex 3. That gives them a lifetime pass in my book.

It looks like a fun game, although I could do without too many quicktime events and the jostling camera work in the cinematics. I may buy it if it's on the Steam summer sale.

2013-03-06 02:58:52 PM
So now they're ripping off the beloved Metroid:Other M?

2013-03-06 02:59:30 PM
I put a few hours into it last night and so far I like it. The story seems to be decent, graphics are good and I like "building" her to suit my play style with skills and gear upgrades.

I do recommend turning off both tesselation and TressFX as my crashing seemed to stop with them off.

I'm liking the reboot, they done good.

2013-03-06 02:59:49 PM
Sounds absolutely awesome.  I'm not really a fan of the other games in the series, but I'll take a look at this one.

2013-03-06 03:00:13 PM
Played this last night.

It's basically Uncharted with Lara Croft instead of Nathan Drake. Lots of great environments and decent platforming. The game does a good job at playing with expectations, and the quick-time events aren't so bad when you get some pretty gruesome deaths as a hilarious/horrifying treat. I haven't gotten too far in, but it's competently written and acted as far as I can tell (though I am gonna have to choke a biatch if they don't stop gabbing on about the farking Sun Queen chick).

Overall, definitely worth a rental for non-fans, probably worth buying if you like the series.

AsprinBurn: $60

I only paid 40ish through Steam a few days ago before release, though it might have had a small sale going on at the time, I don't recall for sure.

You put it better than I could easily type on my phone. Basically Uncharted with boobs.

There's a Lara Croft game?

I tried to buy it from best buy last night and they were all sold out, so I guess its doing well

Is it true that they really ramped up the amount of combat? Because fighting was always the worst part of the Tomb Raider games.

Kind of clunky and too gritty on the PS3, is it good on the PC or something?

I saw the tumblr feminist audience was up in flames because in this game the male bad guys roughen up and threaten Lara Croft, thus making the game virtual female abuse and exploitation. OH THE HORROR!!

I guess playing as Solid Snake and getting tortured to death while naked is hunky dory because he's a man...

I would think they'd like to play the ultimate feminist revenge fantasy.

Uncharted didn't have decent platforming, you just moved to the next available ledge/area until a scripted event happened.

Well other than the climbing if you count it.  But some of us don't like jumping for the sake of jumping.

I got to play about 20 minutes of it yesterday. Now, keep in mind that I am A: a woman, and B: have hated the Tomb Raider series because godamnnit I do not want to play as a character who is a sex symbol that happens to have good platforming game play.

But I have to say, I can't wait to get back to the game. It's fun, the puzzles so far are intuitive (meaning I didn't want to run away screaming in frustration) and rewarding, and I care a shiatton about Lara. Because I fail at QTE's I got her squished four times at this one point. Each time was just as painful to watch as the first time, and I started yelling at the game not because it was preventing me from progressing but more that I got her killed again, and I didn't want her to 'suffer' for my sake.

So, definite win in my book. The gameplay cleaves closely to what my friends have extolled about the old series, and never alienates me because I'm a woman. While most female protagonists are just grating or irritating, I care about Lara and want to see her succeed.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

As I understand it, her boobage was originally a programming error, accidentally raising her cup size a few notches, and the producers just decided to roll with it.

Just send her to one of those Russian espionage academies which specialize in sex.

Uncharted is just Tomb Raider with d0ng.

Actually when Uncharted first came out was calling it Dude Raider just to troll PS3 fan boys.
However I finally got around to playing the series and its pretty good, not better than Arkham Asylum good but whatever.
Just made it to Shambala in Uncharted 2

There were only two Deus Ex games. I don't know what you're talking about and refuse to consider it.

meh, I didn't like 3 all that much (noire style and too little gameplay IMO).  I liked the 2nd one better.  Just a preference thing I guess, or maybe 2 really did work better as a console shooter.

Meh, I'll wait.  Currently preoccupied with BL2, Walking Dead, and GW2.

Torgue's campaign of carnage has been started, and restarted, over and over since I was convinced by a Steam buddy to get it back in January.  He is, so far, the best character they've introduced in the series.  I really want them to release another Torgue campaign with missions where you get a special Torgue vehicle with a 5th seat in it, where Mr. Torgue rides along with you swearing and yelling and being, well, Mr. Torgue as you blow shiat up.

This version will not be popular with serious gamers. However, those men with a functional penis, on the other hand, won't be bothered by it.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Fantastic game. Refusing to consider it or give it a try is doing yourself a disservice.

While I agree in concept, Gameplay wise tomb raider was out in 1996, IJ and the infernal machine wasn't out till 1999.
However I have enjoyed TR, IJ and UnCharted. Looking forward to closing out 2 and then starting 3 then moving on to the new tomb raider.
Being an older unbaised gamer I can appreciate how games in general build on each other.

I was talking more a long the line of puzzle solving and platforming. In both TR and UnCharted, the gun parts feel tacked on, IMHO.

How's the puzzle to action ratio in the new game?  The last Tomb Raider I played was swim, puzzle, puzzle, puzzle, jump, jump some more, puzzle, puzzle, action.... repeat.

I found it to be over puzzling with not enough fighting and stuff.
