Fark me, you could train a Maltese to fight!   They might not be very dramatic, but you could do it!  So categorizing breeds by their ability to fight, they all teeth and claws.

I am not particularly inclined to think Vick be allowed to own dogs, but if he is at least he is doing the right thing by finding an obedience trainer.  Vick cannot help but know he is under enormous scrutiny.  If he uses the opportunity to reach out to the public (and perhaps a demographic not otherwise reached) about responsible dog ownership, then perhaps some small good can come out of the horrible situation.

If you are arrested for driving drunk, your license gets suspended. If you keep doing it, eventually your license is permanently revoked. A condition of Vick's sentence (or anyone who spent years murdering dogs for recreation and profit) should be that he never owns anything with more sensitivity to abuse than a pet rock.

Also, it kind of rustles my jimmies that there's no one who even tries to defend Vick anymore.  It shows their true colors that they were OK with him when he had a chance at "redemption" by being a good football player, but now that he's shown that he's still a mediocre QB (and now clearly at the end of his career) and still a miserable person you don't hear anyone saying how wrong it is to "judge" Vick.  It makes me realize that the wannabe-holier-than-thou types on this one really only tied their estimation of Vick as a person to whether or not he could win football games and they won't even show up to own their hypocrisy.

He had opportunities to do so when he was released from prison and spared additional charges by the VA State DA.  I would have liked to have seen him take a year away from football, preferably to work for animal shelters to make up for his years of horrific actions.  Failing that, it would have been nice if he didn't break his parole within a year.  Failing that, it would have been nice if he had actually worked hard to actually achieve his potential instead of slacking off and talking smack about how "no one can stop me" when clearly any semi-decent defense can stop him. It also would have been nice if he hadn't whine about not being able to own a dog and asked what he was supposed to tell his child when asked why he couldn't have one.  His kids will know the truth about their dad someday, they might as well learn while they're young.

At this point, he has proven to be beyond hope for changing as a person.  Sure, he won't go back to dogfighting, but he's still the same self-centered, stupid prick that he was his whole life before he went to prison.

I root for him to get his head taken off everytime he drops back to pass.

That's about how I feel. Probably shouldn't be allowed to own a dog, but it sounds like he's approaching this in the correct manner (beside not having a dog). Wasn't his children the main impetus for getting a dog again?

I have 8 rescue dogs.  All 8 were abused.  One of them is a former bait dog.  I'm very good friends with the woman that runs the rescue organization that now owns the former Vick property in VA.

I think Michael Vick is still a lousy human being.  I thought what he did with the Humane Society after his release was great, even if his intentions were purely PR - a child in an inner city school that looks up to him doesn't know or care that he's doing it, he just gets the message that he needs to respect animals.

I'm completely ok with him having a dog.  In fact, I think it's great.

If nothing else, the constant scrutiny he's under means this dog is guaranteed to have a better life than most dogs.  There's no better way for his kids to learn responsibility and how to properly care for a dog. They're not responsible for what he did, and they're exactly the audience we need to reach to make positive change in animal welfare.  I love speaking to young children about animal welfare, because I'm never going to get directly through to their parents, but when little Sally goes home and asks dad why Sparky has to sleep outside, or has a chain around his neck, or is itchy all the time because he's covered in fleas, dad is gonna think about changing things. We always talk about the healing power of dogs - this dog has the chance to really heal.

Why does everyone always bring up pedophiles when discussing Michael Vick?  Why not corporate embezzlers?  Or carjackers?  Or drunk drivers?  Or drug dealers?

Is there something innately similar between pedophiles and Michael Vick?  Or children and pitbulls?  Pitbulls are hated by 99.99% of all rational human beings.  I don't think a child has ever mauled anyone, but I could be wrong.
