Sequel to "The Whole Nine Yards" ?

2013-03-06 09:36:11 AM
FTA:  "As for the rest of us: Save your money and wait for the new 3-D version of the 1939 classic that Warner Bros. has promised for later this year."

fark you. fark you WB and fark you asshat 'critic' for even suggesting this.

2013-03-06 10:11:51 AM
Looking at this guy's other reviews. 99% are either "This movie sucks" or "this classic 1930s movie was awesome and why don't they make 'em like THIS any more."

I'm not inclined to believe his experience will match my experience.

2013-03-06 10:13:31 AM
I have a feeling a lot of these movies with the ridiculously rich/colorful CG backgrounds are going to look silly and very dated in 15 years or so.

2013-03-06 10:14:40 AM
Plus he's got a hate on for James Franco that makes me believe he had already made up his mind about the film before he went in.

Simple test. Do you have a copy of Twister?

2013-03-06 10:28:28 AM
I'll probably buy the 3D Blu-ray and watch it with my family.

2013-03-06 10:32:14 AM
James Franco seems like he's right on the edge of falling away forever like Cuba Gooding Jr. And that may be fine with him.

2013-03-06 10:33:35 AM
My problem with James Franco is pretty much what this guy says in the article.

Franco gives off the impression he's not committed to (any) project and always looks like he's saying "Hey, look!  It's me James Franco doing something so stupid that I'm doing ironically!"

Hey look!  I'm taking unnecessary college classes!
Hey look!  I'm hosting the Oscars!
Hey look!  I'm a big time movie star but I'm appearing on General Hospital!  Ironically!

2013-03-06 10:34:22 AM
ftfa: By this point - about one-third in - it's clear Franco is as miscast here as he was as an Oscar host

he's one of the most overrated actors out there
never seen him in anything that someone else couldn't do as well or better

2013-03-06 10:38:07 AM
While I am inclined to believe that this critic is just a downer and shrill for WB, this movie does have Franco in it. This is a man who acts like he smoked an entire bowl before getting in front of the camera. And while that works in some roles, it doesn't in many. He's fastly becoming another Matthew Mcconaughey, he keeps getting roles on momentum and eye candy alone.

enry: Simple test. Do you have a copy of Twister?

I was actually thinking about that movie the other day, and was intending to watch it with the specific reason of seeing how the effects have held up. I remember being impressed by them when it came out, and I suspect that is no longer the case.

/also to laugh at the notion that a tornado of any power wouldn't liquefy you if you sat in the middle of it

Mila Kunis has prosthetic tits in this movie? Why?

2013-03-06 10:45:14 AM
My friend is very picky about movies, but I agree with most of her opinions about them. She went to a preview and loved it. Even recommended the 3D version, and she usually hates 3D. Based on that, I'll be going to see it.

2013-03-06 10:48:24 AM
TFA: Save your money and wait for the new 3-D version of the 1939 classic that Warner Bros. has promised for later this year.

Yeah, the reviewer just lost all legitimacy.

2013-03-06 10:51:49 AM
"I hate JAMES FRANCO and so this movie sucks."

Call me crazy but "more preconceptions than a teabagger at a Planned Parenthood rally" would seem a bad trait in a film reviewer.

2013-03-06 10:53:38 AM
Planning on seeing this in a Saturday matinee.   By myself.  And I'm ok with that.

But darn it, I really hope it's watchable.  I'm a real-life Oz fangirl.  I had first edition books with the color plates and everything that I read as a little girl.  I don't typically like Franco (he is just not a good actor), but I have some pretty high expectations for Raimi.

I just cant watch anything with Franco in it without "this guy looks like such a douche" running through my head constantly.

Perhaps it will suxar.  Regardless, I am taking my daughter to see it on a huge IMAX in 3D (the nearest one is 200 miles away).  We are going to make a weekend out of it in Oklahoma City OK (from Jackson MS).

62% at Rotten Tomatoes, so apparently it's not quite as bad as all this.

Thank you- I thought I had misread that before I realized what it really said.  WTF??

I think Franco is an average at best actor but only morons take the Post seriously.

Oh shiat. This movie is in 3D? I guess I won't be going to see it after all.

2013-03-06 11:16:02 AM
My general rule of thumb is if there have been ads for the movie for more than 7-10 days before it's release date, the movie is going to suck. I've been seeing ads for this movie for almost a month.

2013-03-06 11:21:08 AM
This movie is probably going to suck ass regardless of this or any other review, but I still feel like I need to see it because mai waifu Michelle Williams is in it.  That's pretty much the only reason I care about this movie at all.  I'll probably rent it instead of seeing it in theaters.

You'll be able to look back and pinpoint that was the day your daughter started to hate you.

No, but your face is.

Rotten tomatoes has it at 62% right now.

This can change, but it's looking like more people liked it than didn't, and while it might not be the greatest re-telling of the story, it's not as bad as this guy makes it out to be.

And this is why I don't hang out with movie critics. They can't enjoy anything.

2013-03-06 11:26:01 AM
The real reason you can rest assured this movie is going to suck? It's release date.

It's sorta of the untalked about yet widely known secret in Hollywood that starting in min Jan and running through to the end of March is literally the dumping ground for movies. You've gotten over your Xmas releases and are ramping up marketing for your summer blockbusters, so you release a ton of crap you had waiting in the wings and didn't want to release head to head against a bigger movie.

2013-03-06 11:27:02 AM
Of course it's going to suck.  It will also rake in piles of cash, because for some unfathomable reason people love Oz.

2013-03-06 11:27:42 AM
Does Franco sell drugs in this movie? That's the only time he is entertaining.

It's only Wednesday.  It's pretty much guaranteed to go down quite a bit by release day.

I'm betting the whole thing is just a write-off in preparation to a Broadway adaptation after Wicked finally closes.

Generally true, except that there is a certain window around early/mid March where studios will often times release a big budget PG/PG-13 movie hoping to corner the market on families looking for something to do over their Spring Break.

No.  It's no worse than someone who just wants to watch Marvel superheros make things explode with their superpowers.

Yeah, like last year Alice and Wonderland was released at this time, and I think the year before that Horton Hears and Who.   While they weren't good by any sense of the imagination, they were expected to make money by the studios.

He expected Liz Taylor ratings. Instead, his ratings were worse than when they brought the chick from Beakman's World in as a Spinelli clone.

I wouldn't mind seeing it, though comparisons to Alice in Wonderland from a few years ago has me really leery. I'm hoping the comparisons are mostly for broad reasons, though.

I don't think it's a re-telling, but more of a prequel.

With Les Miz turning out to be a hit, Universal has announced they're ready to move forward with Wicked.

Also Into the Woods with Meryl Streep got the greenlight.

I wonder if Cameron Mackintosh is going to do a Miss Saigon movie. He said he would if Les Miz did well.
