You should invest in Bull Semen.

Glad it is doing well, is good for my retirement account.

Has little bearing on the actual health of the economy.

Let's do the numbers.

If by "invest" you mean, "treat it as a salad dressing," then my portfolio is a winner!

It's also 6 years behind.  There are 6 years of lost growth.

11% unemployment, family incomes down, growth barely in the positive, exploding debt, but good thing the stock market is good this month.

Can't wait for the next crash.

I've been playing too many grand strategy games. I read "DOW" as an acronym for "Declaration Of War."

Austerity and spending cuts have consequences. At least the GOP got what they wanted.

I'm assuming your talking about the extra $6,000,000,000,000 spent over the last 4yrs as austerity and spending cuts?

Not to mention the massive inequality of wealth distribution, which cause all those other things you mentioned. A happy stock market fixes none of these things.

I'd say this would be a champagne, hookers and blow moment for those that bought low in 2008/9, instead of selling low after buying high.

The Dow isn't a very good indicator of the countries economic condition and never really has been. It only indexes 30 companies and all of them, regardless of market cap or sector, are equally weighted. So a slight downturn or upturn at a single company can result in a wide shift in the average. Wall Street places way too much emphasis on it and often responds inappropriately.

Yeah, but those unemployed and underpaid people can just sell some stock now that the prices are up, so it's all good. I declare the economy officially recovered!

The Tea Party Express swept into power and cut the head off of bloated government spending.  Libs like you try to say that Obama does everything good, but Real Americans know that the massive reduction in government spending growth was due to Real Leadership from patriots like Michelle Bachman.

Michelle Bachman is taking care of business.  Suck it, lib.

And that isn't counting the delayed inflation built in from the QE1/2/3 stuff. If or when the banks pull that money out of the Fed, shiat is gonna get real, really fast.

Spelling it "Tao" is still used because it's so universally recognized. It got grandfathered in.
It has always been pronounced "Dao" however, and "Dao" is the modern spelling.

The revolution will never happen. Bread and Circuses TVs and Cheetos are cheap and abundant even in the poorest home.

Yes, actually. The rate of spending had been decreaasing at the fastest rate since the end of WWII under Obama.. Sure, the actual spending was still, technically, increasing, but the economy of a country doesn't turn on a farking dime.

What? Stock Market Thread? Who gives a shiat?

Check out this dude at Walmart ...

This guy can not, nor will not, stand for anything but limited government, lower taxes, and 4XL Dale Earnheart t-shirts! He gets everything from Walmart, his entertainment, his food, his clothing ... even his trashcans to throw all his old Walmart trash in! I love this guy!

A reduction in the amount you are planning to increase spending is not even close to an actual reduction in spending. You can claim that you were going to spend eleventy quadrillion, but changed your mind and will only spend three hundred trillion. This is not a reduction in actual spending. That is the same "logic" as "I saved $300 because I bought something I wasn't looking to buy because it was 50% off!"

I'm glad NPR made this point. I'm tired of hearing crowing about how things are better, people are better, everything is better when in reality people are still being paid like crap but corporations are still making record profits.

"Leaving" is what you always pay hookers for.

As Heidi Fleiss would always tell her girls, when they asked why some big-name celebrity needed to pay: "They're not paying you for sex. They're paying you to leave afterwards".

Not to mention that a smaller and smaller portion of the population controls a larger and larger percentage of the wealth. That is not the way to a prosperous society.
