I'm sure it was just some idiot with his new toy. shiat getting a bit crazy with these things.

Maybe there should be a limit as to the RC strength so they can only pick up the signal within 1000 ft or something?

So the pilot sees a "black" drone chasing him and naturally ASSUMES it's Obama?
RACIST!!

I have, but admittedly not one of great quality. I was mainly referring to those hovering boxes with the multiple propellers and the camera, which is what this "drone" probably was.

An RC plane cannot hover. With these drone-like boxes, I can buzz my neighbors house and see what's for dinner thorough the window..that just doesn't seem right.

I doubt the pilot's ability to accurately judge the size of this thing.

If someone has an RC that can pace a jetliner and can get it into the airspace of JFK without the FAA and Homeland going batshiat, I'd be more worried than if Obama was testing drones.

Remember the cow they birthed when someone was just pointed laser pointers at the planes?!

They don't mind you checking out what they're having for dinner, but they would REALLY appreciate it if you would stop watching their 16 yr. old daughter take showers.

I actually love the word "drone"..I love Obamas policy on drones, and I love the fact that he is killing terrorists like Raid to bugs..or something.

I also love RC helis, and I have a few(broken) ones. However, when you can fly an RC whatever up to a jetliner, we have a problem...that is all.

So why the snark?

My father once had an interesting experience when he was flying his ultralight.  He saw what he thought was a  Mickey Mouse hot air balloon off in the distance.  That wouldn't be all that out of place, we have a large hot air balloon festival in the general area, and it would have been about that time of year.  He turned towards it, just to be friendly and go wave hello, and got surprised when it all of a sudden flashed past him

It was a toy helium balloon someone had let go.

Without a proper frame of reference, though, it looked like a large balloon far away, instead of a small balloon relatively close.

Imagine the jet's engines ingesting one of these "toys" that's merely nearby, not necessarily in the flight path. Would make geese look like peanut butter going through.

I guess the people with towels on their heads are gonna start getting ideas when they read about this.

You have to excuse him. His dad was a drone. One day he went out for a pack of smokes and never came back.

I'm not sure why he would assume Obama was responsible for this, or why he needed to mention it was black so much...

Oh.  I see.

2nd amendment: you have a right to bear arms.   So you up this to include any arms you wish, whether it be a simple sidearm revolver, musket, or semi-auto rifle or even a 50 cal.  But now you're saying that we can have RC toys so long as they are not quad-copters with cameras??   Convienient.

At precisely the same time journalists discovered that the word "drone" panics people knowing full well that panicked people read news stories.

What a man with a remote control toy looks might look like.

Still, he should probably stop messing around and start doing his job. There could be terrorists about.

While it's certainly sad that we probably wont ever get to see pictures of a bunch of smiling kids holding up "we didn't know it was invisible" signs in front of a bunch of wreckage ever again I'm fairly sure its all the murder people are objecting too and using planes would not satisfy them.

h0tsauce: "When did we stop calling them remote control toys and start calling them drones?"

When they hung out at 1800 feet.  RC toys don't do that.
Their controls are barely good for a couple hundred feet.  Signal boosted they wouldn't even get to 1000'.
And even the high end of RC toys are only good for ~15 minutes of air time, so getting to 1800' and back again, if possible, would leave pretty much zero time for 'loitering'.

So even if we're still talking about a hobbyist, they would have built a device that's far more 'drone' than 'toy'.

have to say disagree for $400 chuck

both are airborne remote controlled craft

both can take video and transmit it back to operator

one can go really high and really far

the other can hover and is pretty small w/ a shorter range

drone is a drone is a drone

I know a lot of you are Obama supporters, and I won't knock it because I voted for him in 08. The damage the GOP did to our nation during the Bush era is unquestionable, but the damage being done now is comparable.

Our economy is not getting any better, anyone that deals in upper management can tell you. Business is not rebounding, but it seems investors are taking more risks, inflating the stock market.

It's time we recognize the problem as non-partisan and that Obama simply used the atrocities of the GOP as deflection to continue the seemingly identical agenda.

I'll step off my soap box now. Some things just need to be said.
