That's kind of cool, not scary.

Meh.  I used to do that, along with projectile vomiting, after a long night of hard drinking.

The canine will drop a horned lizard after being squirted and attempt to wipe or shake the blood out of its mouth, clearly suggesting the fluid has a foul taste.

Tastes like (spoiled) chicken?

UberDave: I used to catch those things...could never get one to do that.

I lived in South Texas during my elementary school days, and would go catch them in the morning. One day I found a huge one, and put him in my pocket. I was going to go let him loose at lunch, after impressing all the chicks with my lizard catching prowess.
He fell asleep in the warmth of my pocket, but was feeling constricted, so he adjusted himself right in the middle of a math test. I had forgot that he was in my pocket, and jumped about 5 feet out of my seat when he shifted.
Haven't seen one in about 30 years now, due to suburban development and fire ants.

Me too... I didn't know this qualified as 'amazing', since I've known they could do this forever. I figured it was going to be a horny toad before I even clicked the link.

Cool, but I don't understand why being squirted with blood would deter a coyote. You'd think carnivores would be quite used to their food bleeding everywhere.

This is a good question. i wondered that too. Could it be that the coyote senses that the spray may be poisonous or something? Or maybe just the spray action startles it?

The announcer (who may be wrong) even says "it's just plain old blood." So yeah, I was wonder why this works..

You're absolutely right:

There is no reason for this abortion!

If it's a legitimate video, the body has ways of dealing with that.

Maybe they know there shouldn't be any blood yet and that causes alarm. Maybe they think they have hurt themselves.
