"The second bank employee, who was in an office, heard the shouts for help. He saw Oliva pointing a handgun at the first bank employee, the affidavit says, and retrieved a Smith & Wesson .357 revolver. He fired two rounds at Oliva. The first shot struck Oliva in the jaw, according to the affidavit, and he turned and started toward the bank's front doors..."

Tony will be along shortly to slam your head in a car door for proper f*cking his line. "means you get shot in face" - did you turn into Boris at the end there?

I don't get it. You work as a friggen bank teller. Hourly wage. Why fight for money that's not yours? You aren't going to get a raise for it. They probably won't even thank you. So why bother?

Don't you just love quality journalism? The kind that gives you those obscure little details you couldn't have possibly figured out by yourself?

I wouldn't shoot anybody over money either - but this fool was acting like he was about to shoot somebody his own self - and in that situation, I'm going to shoot.

Ya, I'm not the brightest bulb, but I kinda figure the second employee was protecting his female coworker from getting shot.

Line in headline comes from the movie "Snatch." Every time I heard Brad Pitt's gypsy-talk, I'd larf. Replica scene, with its shrivelling mousey balls sort of lines, was very funny also. Recommend movie, if you're bored and wondering how to spend a couple of hours.

The teller was scared shiatless and proceeded to freak out because she thought she was about to be murdered.  The bank employee who shot the bad guy who appeared ready to shoot her was protecting the lady.  That's what men are supposed to do Junior,

From the article linked-to by this article:

"Anybody that does any kind of crime, breaks into houses or goes and robs anybody they basically they're taking their own life on the line," said Chief Larry Fish, Trimble Police Chief.

Damn straight.  As my coworker says, getting shot or beaten is an occupational hazard of being a robber or burglar.

That's when I realized that Subby had linked us into some sort of Eye-of-the-Derpstorm blog.  Clearly there is no more oppressed people on this earth than the white American, according to readers of that blog.

Only under the disgusting, primitive, misogynist cultural atavism of "chivalry." A proper metrosexual would have let the women see to her own self-defense, instead of assuming she was helpless just because she was crying for help. It could have been a ploy to lull the robber into a false sense of security before going all "Kill Bill" on his ass.

/and if it wasn't, then she was the kind of woman that supports the patriarchy and needs to be eliminated
//can't have a perfect society if there's even a single imperfect individual infecting it, you know

For the record, at least on the fact of the story, I'm fully in support of this outcome.  I hate thieves, and this guy was making quite a show of threatening someone's life over money that wasn't his.  That he caught a bullet in the act is perfectly acceptable, although I'm upset that the second round was a miss.  You never know where those misses will go when you're in the heat of the moment in an occupied room.

FTA: "Anybody that does any kind of crime, breaks into houses or goes and robs anybody they basically they're taking their own life on the line," said Chief Larry Fish, Trimble Police Chief.

Dat's the facts, Jack.

Hooray for consequences for ones actions.  You try to take from someone, or harm someone, you're rights should be forfeit.  If you can't live in society, you're out.

Teller didn't do the shooting.  She was crawling on the ground thinking she was about to get murdered at her minimum wage job.  Someone "who was in an office" and thus likely management saw what was happening and made a nice head shot.  Must have been from the side, because I can't imagine a .357 round (even just ball) being taken face-on not blowing a nice hole out the back of his neck.

As far as thanking goes, words aren't needed.  She now knows her manager will kill to protect her.

/Nice shot.  Maybe upgrade to better ammo?

Years ago I worked at a convenience store. I worked at night on the weekends, by myself. I had 2 robbery attempts in the 8 months I worked there. One guy reached across the counter and grabbed the money. Problem was the counter was very wide and he was nearly completely laid out on it to reach the money. He had a small locking knife out in his other hand, maybe a 3 1/2 or 4 inch blade on it. I had his arm and grabbed a sap I kept next to the register and started beating him on the head with it. I took his knife and called the police while he was on the floor trying to figure out up from down again. A patrol car was driving by when the call went out. I saw it light up on the highway out the window and then slam on the brakes when he realized he was right at the store. He came in and handcuffed the guy, searched him and called for an ambulance. He took my statement, the manager had to come in to give him a copy of the video of the incident. I never heard anything else about it.

2nd time someone tried to rob me they used a gun. They had no idea what to do with the gun which made it worse. He told me to grab a sack and put all the money in it and a couple cartons of Newports. I grabbed a bag and a gun and came back up from the counter with the gun pointing at his head. He didn't notice for at least 5 seconds because he was nervous and kept looking around. It was 3 am Sunday morning. I don't know who he was expecting to pop out of the coffee counter. Anyway he was looking elsewhere and pointing the gun somewhere else. As soon as he saw the gun pointed at him he bolted. Straight into the door that was locked and said "Use other door." He gathered himself back up and took off out the correct door and ran off down the highway leaving his car in front of the store where he parked it. The police came, took a statement, got the video, searched his car and then another patrol car showed up with the guy in the back. They asked me if I knew him, I said it was the guy that tried to rob me. He owned the car, his wallet was in the console with his ID in it. I'm glad the guy took off. If he would have pulled that gun around back toward me I would not have hesitated to pull the trigger. I didn't want to and I'm glad I didn't have to. However he looked like he was nervous and desperate so I wasn't going to take a chance that he would be calm enough not to try and shoot when he got the gun back around.I worked there another few months and got a better job.
