I like how subby leaves out that they aren't going to charge anyone or investigate at all, they're just keeping public land from becoming a pot farm.

Seattle's been very lax in pot enforcement for a while now.  Even though Washington state laws were kinda harsh up until this recent election, Seattle's law enforcement operated under a policy of making pot possession "the lowest possible priority."  Basically, if you get busted committing some other crime and you had weed on you, they'd tack that on.

The police are going to focus on real crime rather than investigating who planted some plants? What has this world come to?

To my mind, if you plant cannabis in a public park, that's like planting corn.  First, why the fark would you do that?  and second, it won't be there when it's ready for harvest.

I am having trouble getting upset about police getting rid of pot plants growing in a public park.  Especially since that's the end of it...they got rid of 'em...and won't be investigating.

When I used to smoke crappy pot that had seeds in it I liked to save up the seeds until I was walking the dog through a park, the I'd play Davey Potseed and distribute a few hundred near the trails. I figured the cops would be proud of themselves when they busted those and kept millions of dollars of herb off the streets.

Maybe someone copied that concept.

Cops in Seattle have been known to ask you to not be seen smoking outside again when they come back... then they go away for a long while and you're surely finished when they come back around. No, this is just a normal day on the street, not during Hemp Fest or just since legalization. They have been decidedly "Meh" about smoking in public places for the 10 years I've lived here. Not growing up here, I still catch a little giggle when I smell something green in the air. My husband rolls his eyes at me. Or asks if I caught a contact high.

Holy Crap.  I had some Datura seeds I was going to plant because they were pretty.  SO saw some plants on his college campus and grabbed a few (although he just thought they looked cool, I ended up IDing them for him).  Then I read the Erowid and decided I didn't want to have some dumbass kid's horrific experience on my conscience.

More importantly,

This.  But you know, people be lazy and dumb.  Whether they smoke pot or not.

My friend grew medicinal in Michigan and took it pretty damn seriously, even though he only had 2 plants.  When he was moving, he refused all offers to help since he needed to be alone, in the locked car, with the plants for the drive from one house to another.

(Another) friend did scatter some marijuana seeds while he was staying at a libertarian landlord's place (she lived in the basement and rented out everything else in and around the house, and told him she couldn't care less when he asked).  The plants started to grow but didn't last long.  Which was pretty funny, especially considering the only close neighbor was a church.  My friend was just mildly annoyed they cut them down before they even flowered.

If there is one thing I've learned from the pro-pot crowd, it's that smoking it makes one extremely sensitive to anything and everything related to it, and that it takes the smallest of nudges to get them ranting loudly about how much better the world would be upon global legalization (without realizing that their ranting is one of the things that scares people about pot)

True, the ranting wears off by adulthood for most, but the ones where it doesn't.. eek.

No, I mean, who the fark thinks it's cool to just start planting in public? Unless it's anti-marijuana activity, designed to make legalization look like a bad idea...

Yeah i can't work up the rage on this one... It's like they pulled up a bunch of poison ivy that someone planted in the park. It's not illegal to plant poison ivy in a park, but it still has the potential to mess up a kid/pet.

The world would be better with global legalization, simply by virtue of people not being locked up for stupid bullshiat.

Here's the thing.... like Atheists and Evangelical Christians, those are just the LOUD douchebags.  There's plenty of reasonable people you just don't hear from, mainly because they don't feel like screaming at the top of their lungs at the slightest perceived opportunity.

I have two coworkers who work part time with me, and part time at a well respected medical marijuana dispensary.  I've *never* heard them go on a rant...

... well, one of them started ranting a bit when the AG in my state pretty much made dispensaries illegal (on the whim of the cities they were in).  But that rant was a precursor to giving us addresses of relevant state and local elected officials we should contact to voice our opinion that that was a BS decision along with sample letters with relevant legislation references.  Actually, that was the one and only time she brought up her other job at my workplace (well, in any formal sense... she didn't hide her other job but didn't advertise it either).

And at least that was a completely and fully justified rant, as opposed to a nonsensical one about how everything should be made of hemp, man.

I've found since I've left college that those people are the norm.  They're not going to go on "the world would be better if everyone smoked, man" rants at a drop of a hat.  And they are the majority.

/hell, count me in that camp, and I don't even smoke
//likewise on both counts with the SO (who used to in college, but now it just puts him to sleep so he doesn't bother)

I'm guessing it's not like a city park.  It's probably like a national park with trees and wilderness and shiat.

This is what happens when you don't keep an eye on your grow.  It'll get stole.  Reminds me of a relative's attempt to get into the green business back in the early 70s.  Yada yada yada, cows ate their crop.

Were you at Enchanted Rock park, north of Austin, a couple years ago? If so, I saw some of your handiwork. Darlingest little pot plant, about a foot tall. Very healthy-looking and just off one of the trails. I photographed it and let it be.

I can't personally take credit for that one. My work was all in California and it's been a while since I've done it. It may have been the work of one of my friends who loved the idea and lives out that way.

2.bp.blogspot.com

It ain't 100% legal in WA. The state hasn't gotten around to writing up how you can legally buy or sell it, so you can't technically buy or sell. You also can't open a baggie in public, or consume pot in public. You can't use or posses it on Federal property, including colleges that get federal money, because they will enforce federal law (to keep their federal money.)

The law has warts as projected, but I think it's pretty close to DBAA, all things considered. The anti- crowd has changed their tune to "OMG NOT REAL LEGALIZATION" in a bizarre attempt to get stoners to repeal this supposed wolf in sheep's clothing. It's pretty damned interesting how this is going down.

/don't have a connection :(

Sir Eric

Why should the police be involved at all? Doesn't Seattle employ, you know, gardeners to take care of the parks?

Yes they do, and  for anyone who wants to do research near seattle there is an Island which has a park dedicated to Luther Burbank who was like the einstein of botany or something.

From the 70s to the early 80s the gardeners who worked there paid homage to the great botanist by growing stuff like that in the middle of giant hollowed out rings of blackberry bushes, complete with camouflaged access tunnels.

until they were busted by some joyriding flying eyes in the sky.

Wasn't sure if it was an annual or perennial. Thanks. I know it wouldn't really make a dent in those Himalayan blackberries in the green space behind my home, but if it did, I would. Guess I'll just have to rent a goat to keep the runners out of the backyard.

You're right (hence the SO finding some on his admittedly mainly commuter college campus).

From Erowid + the two acquaintances I know dumb enough to try it it *should* be illegal - if pot is and we're being consistent anyway - but since the high is godawful I doubt it ever would be.
