Good example of badly fitting bra. She's spilling out the sides, it's sitting too low, and the wire is poking in on the insides. It's kinda like they plucked out some random B cup for her. Also, at her cup size, she should probably have thicker shoulder straps.

I wish that there was a bra school near here that I could go to. I would love to have someone measure me and give me an accurate size. And the theory that women don't think that they can be bigger than a super model is somewhat... weird.

I am actually like DD is a standard for supermodels? Seriously? That explains why I can't find a bra that fits. They seem like they are all made for fake boobie people. Size 2 women do not have DD boobies.

This whole notion that you need a school to teach you how to wear a properly fitting bra is nonsense. If you know how to operate a tape measure, you're good to go. That's half the battle right there. The other half? Figuring out what size your measurements equate to, depending on the bra manufacturer.

Also, couldn't the author of the article find a better example of shelf boob? Christina Hendrickson is so meh...

i do the food shopping. can't help notice how few women have properly fitting bras, especially noticeable from behind. they often look like they must hurt. according to my wife a decent bra can be very expensive. damn things should fit right. i'm surprised more women don't visit a Victoria's Secret or bra specialty shop once a year for a measurement fitting to write down their correct size.

If every style from every manufacturer were consistent in every size this wouldn't be a problem.  Hell, I've bought the same style from the same manufacturer in the same season in different colors and found them to fit differently.  Women put up with a lot of not-quite because it's too much of a hassle to find the right fit.

And don't get me started on the Genie Bra! It may be comfortable and fit well but it looks like something my Grandmother might wear!! Why can't there be sexy, comfortable bras that FIT? I'd pay handsomely for one of them!! Handsomely! Do you hear me? Handsomely!

This. I find a style I LOVE, they discontinue it, I have to buy more of something similar, they discontinue it, then I have to find something else close. And of course sizing is a joke. I'm a 38 DD in some brands, 36 D in others. Completely ridiculous. Even my steady basic T-shirt bras from Gap can vary even if I buy two of the same one. And don't get me started on wires digging into sides, spillage out front...

Ladies who wish for bigger boobs- No you don't. You don't have to hold yourself in when you go over a speed bump, or wear three brassieres to go jogging. Plus, gravity. Your chest will look better in 20 years than mine will. Fact of life.

KrispyKritter: i'm surprised more women don't visit a Victoria's Secret or bra specialty shop once a year for a measurement fitting to write down their correct size.

First off, while I am not a woman I would not jump to the conclusion that Victoria's Secret is some sort of gold standard for measurements pretty much anyone should be able to do.  Just leave gender out of it and consider it my experience with for-profit companies working with a complete lack of industry standards.

Which leads me to my other point:  Industry standards.  In women's fashion, the only thing I know about standards is that there are none.  You could find the exact same size piece of clothing made by three different companies in the same store and the labels will have three different sizes.  It's all about the women fussing around the mall until they find the size that fits with the smallest number on it.  As such a "size 4" or whatever is completely different from whatever the hell it meant 10 years ago.  (There's a "size 0" and even a size "00" now.  I wish I was kidding; women's clothing sizes literally make as much sense as a roulette wheel now.)  The first part of a bra size presumably means the torso measurement (in inches), but I've learned from my wife that that can be off by a couple inches.

So, even a proper measurement means bupkus because the size labels themselves are completely arbitrary.  Bras made by different manufacturers could be off by as much as a full cup size.  It's a bed women made for themselves due to ego-driven consumer habits which screws over the few that want to keep shopping simple & predictable.

kiwimoogle84: Ladies who wish for bigger boobs- No you don't.

In my experience women don't actually want the bigger boobs; they want the attention that comes from having bigger boobs.

Except every woman I've known with naturally big boobs had a psychological force field that emanated antipathy waves at straight men something fierce because sexual harassment was basically a daily fact of life.  Then there are the unfortunate few that were targeted for sexual assault.  Sure you get attention, but you get a lot of unwanted attention and it doesn't come with any sort of "off" switch.

This is true in men's clothes as well (jeans, in particular). Even off the rack suits will vary in weird ways that don't make immediate sense.

Women's bras are no more ill-fitting than their heels. Comfort is not the goal.
