It's all about positioning within Washington.   Big Sis needs to do something to justify the bloated budgets at places like the TSA.

I'm sorry, but does it shock anyone when Napolitano lies?   It's kind of her schtick.

Anyway, that said, anything that decreases TSA staffing hours nearer to zero is fine in my book.

I'd recommend we stop with the cutting of programs that help people and just eliminate the TSA entirely.  Budget problem solved.

I'm sure that will be corrected soon, and the TSA agents will be told to get extra hassle-y, do twice as many random searches/telling people to lift up their shirt/pants whatever, turn up the metal detectors to extra-sensitive... so the Obama administration can say "see, there are delays due to Republican obstructionism!"

You say this, but I for one won' be shocked if that turns out to be true.  Reminiscent of the 1995 shutdown when government employees were screaming 'WE LOST OUR THANKSGIVING!  THE HORROR!" only to get back pay when the shutdown was over immediately.

I flew this weekend and had delays on both trips.  Nobody told me "because sequester", but there weren't any weather problems at any of the start or destination cities.

Sequestration is one of the few times that online name calling discussions actually changed my mind.

If it was really such a big deal we wouldn't be at this point. I feel bad for the private government contractors who will be laid-off because of this.

...Just like the people without rock-solid government contracts have been facing for many years.

Yeah, but an hour plus delay for security is totally normal.  I did ~30 flights all over the country for interviews last fall, and ignoring the occasional 5 AM security line (and 2 PM on a Sunday in Detroit), a half hour was the minimum security line you were looking at.  45 minutes to an hour was average.

The fact that there is at least one major airport with hour-plus delays somewhere across the country is not in any way, shape, or form unexpected or surprising.

/Especially given that it's SF, which is tied with Newark for worst designed airport I flew through.

This.

funny... had you actually stopped to look at WHY they show delays you would see that its due to weather.

care to try again?

When I traveled out of Chicago on Friday, I saw no line. There was also no line Sunday when I returned.

When I traveled out of Jacksonville on Sunday, there was a long line, yet they had all lanes open and the line seemed to move fairly fast.

Out of curiousity (and I mean this sincerely)... what is the average delay on any given day? Like no delay where you just walk straight on through, or a half hour, or how does that work?

Yes, but in addition to checking you for weapons, in SF, they check to see if you are "fabulous"?

Actually I'm going to give credit where it's due. You hit all the major sound bytes pretty well.

It's too bad most people are too simple minded to pick more than one with a measure of healthy skepticism to form a reasonable opinion.

Once our colleges and universities are stripped of their federal funding due to the sequester, it's gonna be spring break from then on out.  It's only a matter of time before people starting being robbed and executed by IRS Legal Tender Reclamation Squads.

Airports know that their words can be validated...and care.  Politicians believe that they can say anything and back it up with sheer gumption, and don't care if their words are disproven.  I'm goin' with airport reports of their conditions.

2013-03-04 03:07:58 PM
Don't worry, this will all work out in time.
Any delay or shortfall in government services going forward will be blamed on the Sequester. They are just a bit early on their press release.

It's what the liberals use when they want to imply that anyone who disagrees with Obama is a racist.  I've never seen anyone who professes to be a conservative use the term.

I've only flown out of it twice (both through Delta), so YMMV.

SF is a weird airport, where each set of gates (Delta has ~10) has its own security line.  Once I had an hour+ line, and once I was the third person in line and was through in 10 minutes (And most of that was having to effectively unpack my entire suitcase to get at my 2nd laptop).

60,000 union jobs. The TSA isn't going anywhere, ever, even if all their employees start skull-farking infants.

Yes, let the outrage flow through you. Republicans are the cause of all of your problems. Big government good. Republicans bad. Look; another one saying something absolutely outrageous.

But, we're different; we never distort anything for our own benefit.

/ personally; I agree with George Washington. No political parties, ever. They cause more trouble then they are worth.

the industry average is 1 in 5 flights are delayed. doesn't take much. how many times have you gotten on a plane and sat there for an extra 20 minutes because the pilot is telling you that the grounds crew is checking on something.
a problem with equipment or weather many hours and thousands of miles away can cascade into your flight several legs down the line.
I hate flying.
