1. No matter what the sport, the more you know about the intricacies, the more enjoyable it is. That's everything from football to basketball to hockey to NASCAR. It's also difficult to get emotionally involved in any game between two teams if you don't have a rooting interest.

2. It's hard for me to take a guy seriously when he says soccer is too boring, but baseball is his thing. Because when I think, "nonstop, breathless action", baseball is the very first thing that springs to mind. I don't even dislike baseball.

IAmRight: uncleacid: Each goal should be worth 6 points just like in our football. 3-1 would 18 to 6.

How sad is it that soccer fans honestly seem to think that this is the problem?

Soccer fans don't think that's a problem. It's mocking American Football for awarding more points per score to add the illusion of a "high scoring game" when in reality if you give 1 point per score, it's not.

I'll never forget watching a soccer analyst embarrass a football analyst on an ESPN show when they were talking about scoring. The football analyst said (I think it was the Patriots) had the highest scoring offense that season and scored XXX amount of points, the soccer analyst came back with how many goals Manchester United had scored that season. The football guy laughed and said, see we score more than soccer....the soccer guy then said, take all out ManU's goals and multiply that by 6 and they outscored your team by 3x. The football guy then pouted.

i've long argued that the NFL should adopt a three point line of sorts for long FGs.  reward teams that attempt the semi-risky 50+yd FG (if missed, then field position for opposing team) with 4, and penalize teams that play conservatively and settle for chip shots from 19yds out. those should be 2.

/also, the safety should be worth 4. when the whole point of the game is to get the ball across the enemy's endzone, getting the ball downed in your end zone should be painful.  2 points is not enough.  it should be like, 4 or 5.

/alex, i'll take, "things that will never happen" for $500

This would penalize gaining yards on offense, or encourage time wasting delay of games to push you back over a line. No one would ever take a two-point shot, outside of the very end of the halves.

And a safety IS a huge penalty because not only do you give up 2 points, you also lose posession AND generally give the opponent's offense good starting field position.

If I were a troll that got published in a city's newspaper, I'd use my throwaway hotmail address, too.

/you can tell that it's trolling when you take Langston's No. 2 point into account
//I do agree that soccer is boring, however. That's why the fans have to invent songs - so they don't fall asleep.
