A thread about football turned into a thread about football.

TheGreatGazoo: What's wrong with Hotmail? I've had an account since it was HoTMaiL. It was around 1997 I think.

HarveyBrooks: Could one of the cool kids let us dorks in on whats wrong with Hotmail?

It's so lame that Microsoft grandfathered it into outlook.com for basically an unspecified amount of time... Probably forever.

sprgrss: Unless you are British, don't use British terms when talking about the sport. It comes off as overly pretentious and boring.

did you catch the Heat last night?  Wade should have been sent off for dissent.  Bosh was unlucky on the far post several times.  Fair play to Bronnie, clearly man of the match;  a brace of shots made and he had the golden shot just short of stoppage.

TonnageVT: Awww look, steamingpile wrote himself an article and then linked to it.

Anyone who thinks the game, even the MLS, is boring, needs to look no further than last night's Timbers-Red Bulls game.

So much this. That was an absolutely incredible match. It was two days ago now and I'm still hoarse.

IAmRight: OhioUGrad: I'll never forget watching a soccer analyst embarrass a football analyst on an ESPN show when they were talking about scoring. The football analyst said (I think it was the Patriots) had the highest scoring offense that season and scored XXX amount of points, the soccer analyst came back with how many goals Manchester United had scored that season. The football guy laughed and said, see we score more than soccer....the soccer guy then said, take all out ManU's goals and multiply that by 6 and they outscored your team by 3x. The football guy then pouted.

Well, when you make sh*t up, knowing that your opponent doesn't know how full of sh*t you are, I guess that's easier.

From league tables: 2006-07 ManU: 83 goals
2007-08 ManU: 80 goals

Cool. So those are the two years around where the Pats killed it on offense.

83 x 6 is 498
80 x 6 is 480

Meanwhile, the Patriots scored 589 points that year.

Let's go ahead and add that the Patriots played 16 games; ManU played 38 games each season.

So yeah, GREAT POINT, SOCCER ANALYST! Not only does your sport suck, but you're either sh*tty at math or you're a liar.

Where did you find the number of goals scored? I don't think it was that many years ago (don't remember exactly it was on some ESPN roundtable)

/you sure seem butthurt about soccer

Guys, guys, cricket is clearly the best sport. There's so much scoring!

/it really was kind of a pain in the ass to find. Can't even just google something simple like "2007 ManU goals scored"
//obviously the team scored more goals in the year with all the random Cups and champions leagues there are, but that's the league schedule, and obviously if they scored more, then they still played more games.

OhioUGrad: you sure seem butthurt about soccer

Nah, just dumb people that have to make sh*t up to claim that their sport is good. Look, I think your sport is boring. It's okay to have on in the background because typically the announcers do a decent job of raising their voice when something might happen, so you can still see everything...but other than that, it's boring. You, obviously, don't feel the same way. So if you want to defend your sport, don't do it by making sh*t up. Just accept that some people don't like it, and feel free to call them stupid for coming in on your threads. I won't take offense to it; I have to do it a lot as a basketball fan on Fark, with all the hockey threadsh*tters.

Thanks for the link, I did a few searches, but nothing that had a breakdown like the one you had, I did it on Yahoo though.

I didn't make anything up about it, I could care less if people like soccer. I enjoyed playing it, I enjoy watching it, but I also enjoy football (NCAA more than NFL), I even enjoy watching my Cleveland Cavs get beat when I can find them on TV and there is nothing else on, and enjoy OhioU and Ohio State choking in basketball when they should be winning. I'm pretty sure the year they referred to on the roundtable was the 2009-2010 season with 103 goals (I think they brought it up because it was a record or close to it). Whether or not his initial math added up, his premise holds true, American Football would not be "high scoring" if they only received 1 point per score, it's just the perception.
