Ima let you finish, but I rocked my parachute pants in the 80s when breakdancing was cool. Apparently the thug life has devolved to watching toddlers strut - each to their own...

Damn! That was fun to watch. I started feeling sorry for that Indian kid. He was good, but at that challenge, she clearly was the winner. "Dora the Destroyer" indeed.

The 80's called. They want their dance back.

I'm sure a six year taunting someone older with a throat slash in a hip hop environment will always be taken in jest.

Some of you are indeed showing your age.  Many of the kids' shows these days feature hip-hop style dancing so it is making a huge resurgence.  My daughter's dance studio has about 50% of its schedule relegated for hip-hop classes or something similar, and the studio is growing in leaps and bounds.  All the classes are full, ALL the time with mostly wealthy, suburban kids.

Ballet is very yesterday.

I'm sure the growth will keep up and in 20 years time 50% of the universe's mass will be dedicated to break dancing classes.  The rest will be shops that sell shoes.

Word.  My parachute pants had so many zippers it took Michael Jackson half an hour to find the one he was looking for.

/And then he did the worm.

No one's wanted to be a breakdancer since 1989.

I was reading a history of New York City and was amazed to see break dancing, sounding absolutely identical to what we know, taking place in Five Points in the early 1800's.

I thought it wasn't official unless some unsupervised toddler wandered onto the dance area and caught a wayward flying limb to the face?

And just like gymnasts they will have severe arthritis before they are out of their teens.  Only they won't get a medal for it.  Or get to go to the Olympic village orgy.

When my kid applied to a teen-level dance company, at orientation parents were asking how much background was needed.  They said they were very flexible, 4-5 years of any 'rigorous' dance with at least some ballet in the mix.  Parents asked "jazz?"  "Yes"  "tap?"  "Sure" "Modern?"  "Of course"  "Hip hop?"  they all shook their heads "Oh, no, that's not rigorous at all.  Basically anybody can do that."

I mean, i enjoy playing guitar but i wont pretend that cellos are outdated or that I am 1/10th as skilled as a cellist.
