What does Washington state have to do with Washington DC?

Something must *really* be rotten in the state of Washington if we can smell it 3000 miles away in Washington, D.C.

#1 It is not as bad as the democrats want you to believe
#2 It is quite bad, but the GOP is willing to fark the little guy to protect their handlers.

I don't get it.  why aren't the Republicans happy about the sequester?  this is what they wanted.  they pushed for it, they demanded it.  now that they've got it they're acting like its all Obama's fault.

I get it, I get it!

Its just like the movie Skyfall, see the GOP is Raoul Silva, Obama is 007, and the Government is M. Basically the GOP for years and years had willingly worked for M and eventually when pinned into a corner, beaten nearly to death, they crushed and swallowed the pill. But it has only disfigured them, and now they are hell bent on killing M for making them do these things.

They took an electoral asskicking in '12, and they know it. Their core demographics are dying, every other demographic loathes them, and if it wasn't for gerrymandering, they'd already be powerless. And they know that, should the sequester turn out anywhere near as badly as people predict, America knows they're to blame.

Alternatively (and perhaps more realistically), they're just hypocritical, cowardly shiatheads.

Boehner and the GOP agreed assuming a Republican would win the White House, and they could gut the defense cuts and keep the domestic cuts.

Then Obama won.  Not only did he win, but the GOP voted to raise taxes on the wealthiest among us and no one did anything about the Payroll Tax Holiday expiring.

The Tea Party wants to cut spending.  After taxes went up for every working American in some form or another, there was no way they were going to actually pay for things with more revenue increases, regardless of form.

They took the poison pill because they wanted too.  They needed the spending cuts in order to go back to their base and tout their "See, I voted to cut spending" credentials.

I would suggest they could have gone back to their base with cuts as President Obama and the Democrats were willing to discuss cuts along with revenue increases. Instead, we got the Meat Cleaver. Now the GOP is pointing blame at Obama to their base, particularly to those civilians who work for DoD, to cover their asses.

I would rather my taxes go up a bit to keep my friends and associates from losing 20% of their pay or losing their jobs completely.

Republicans don't give a damn about America. They only care about themselves and no one else, IMHO.

Because their echo chamber has them convinced that all it needs is one more little push for us all to reject our muslim socialist President and come rushing back to the GOP fold. So they keep adding one derp after another.

No, it's not.  Republicans don't really want to pass spending cuts.  They want to bully DEMOCRATS to pass spending cuts so they can campaign against them in the next election.  Next time a Republican says "We must cut spending", ask them what specifically they would like to cut.

Because it does a lot of things they want. They just want a lot of unpopular things. So they want those things to get done but blamed on the Democrats.

To some degree I think you're right.

All in all we won't know how this shakes out until the Summer.  If everyone manages to scrape by with a minimum of problems then it will be a major win for the Dems.

If things go south and there's some very high profile problems then it's going to be the Republicans that walk away from it with the victory.

However I think the D's can move this in the right direction again if they put up a bill to get the tax cuts for the middle class back.  If they don't go through it means they can hammer the Republicans in 2014 with an unwillingness to give the majority of Americans a break.

Clearly, then, the fault of any economic downturn resulting from the sequester is President Obama's, as it would not have occurred at all had he not allowed himself to be re-elected.

If Subby was literate and actually knew the context of the Shakespeare quote, he would have said, "Something is rotten in the state of America."

It is generally accepted that the state of Washington refers to the one out in the Pacific Northwest, not D.C.

In other words, not sure if you are serious or illiterate.

That's precisely why they wanted, pushed for, and demanded it.  It gives them something new to blame on Obama.  If it tanks the economy and throws 3/4 of a million people out of work, all the better.  Party before country.

They wanted the cuts, but they weren't willing to take the political blame for any specific cuts. They think they can blame this all on Obama. I'm pretty sure they will pass a bill next week to allow Obama to move the cuts around as he wants, that way they can blame it all on Obama and never have to be accused of cutting any specific program.

I'd point out that, again, the sequester wouldn't have even been an issue if the Republicans hadn't held the debt ceiling hostage. Or if they'd negotiated even a little since then, instead of whining for MOAR CUTS while government spending rates are dropping like a goddamn stone.
