The line between chutzpah and dumbassery can get blurry sometimes.

Jenny told him, in so many words, that wasn't going to happen. Mark made one last appeal.
"I could pay you this time," he said.

Oh good gods. He's.... really stupid, isn't he?

As it sounds like she's a classy smart person I can understand her answer. However, I think she should run his campaign. She should charge the shiat out of him and "run" his campaign likes the dickens. Her goal should be to make him really cry. (Evil laugh)

Even better -- one of the reasons he married her in the first place was because she had money.

That's some true sociopath shiat right there. I doubt he can even comprehend why she said no.

"But it will get me power! Doesn't that excite everyone else? I'm awesome, you're being terribly selfish."

This goes a long way towards explaining the whole hiking the Argentine Appalachians episode.  Yes, he really is THAT dumb.

Perhaps he'll finally learn what every other SCian knew:  his greatest achievement was not dying in office, thereby preventing Andre Bauer from being Governor.  That's the reason no one went after him after his little camping trip.

She should run his campaign ... into the ground.

I love the implication that he expected her to do it pro bono when he first approached her, and was suggesting actually treating it like a real job as a pot sweetener.

Oh my God, this sounds like something my ex would propose. And he'd be confused, too, when I didn't jump at the chance.

Or maybe he intended to pay her all along and thought that her refusal was because she thought he wouldn't pay her--that that could be the deciding factor for her and whoops, he forgot to mention that first off.

What pisses me off more than anything is he was caught using state funds for personal use, but he got to pay them back after he was caught.

As a state employee, do you think I could steal from the state and then offer to pay it back if caught and end up anywhere other than jail?

fark him and his Argentinian mistress.

It does make me think that he was under the impression that she would do it for free before she used "so many words" on him.

Seriously, no one wanted Andre Bauer running things.  If you get elected, just make sure whoever would take your place if removed is completely guano psychotic.  You're set for as long as that holds.

Clever, but I think "in so many words" is journalism-talk for her telling him to fark off.

Well, she DID actually speak to him, right? That means everything's cool between them now.

FTA: According to Jenny, she had already told Mark she would be taking a pass on the race the day before, at the funeral of a mutual friend. So when Mark came to visit her, he arrived with a proposal. "Since you're not running, I want to know if you'll run my campaign," he said. "We could put the team back together."

Mark Sanford:  "'Scuse me, 'scuse me.  Former South Carolina governor with big balls is trying to acquire legitimacy for his congressional campaign."

AND expects the wife he cheated on to run his campaign. BONUS: He only offered to pay his ex-wife to run his campaign when she told him off.

It's pretty transparent his interest is in showing people he's a changed man, and he tries to show it through steps showing him as just as unempathetic as everyone thought he was for cheating on his wife on the public dime.

Right into the ground...

This isn't the first time Jenny has had a WTF moment with Sanford.  After his infamous "soulmate" press conference, the first person he called was Jenny, asking how he'd done.  Jenny told him, in so many words, that perhaps she was not the person he should be asking.

Perhaps he thinks of Jenny as a mother. I'm pretty sure that Jenny thinks he's a mother.

He does believe that.  The Family has told him he's one of God's chosen leaders and these piddling little moral failings don't mean a thing.

Republicans long ago established that the rules are strictly to keep the little people in tow. They have no respect for any law or any rule, only for their selfish desires.

Ah man, Frank is my favorite tv cop of all time.  Shame that series didn't last longer.  Or he hasn't done cameos on Law and Order afterwards.

So he could only do cameos in a Chicago based police show.
