That's a little disturbing.

It isn't new and many police agencies have been wasting their money on armored transport and fancy military-style trucks to match all their mall-ninja equipment for quite a while now. DHS/ICE just want to play along too.

No kidding.  Trying to buy any of the top 10 sizes of ammo is a huge pain in the ass these days.

As for the MRAPs, I've said it before and I'll say it again, if these cops wanted to keep playing soldier/Marine so badly, they should have stayed in.  I have a buddy who's getting out of the Army after 12 years as an MP, and is having a hard time finding a job with a PD.  Not because the jobs aren't there, but because they keep trying to sell him on the SWAT (or whatever the local version is called) and he wants nothing to do with it.  He doesn't believe you need dudes with M-4s and body armor walking around US streets.  He says if he still wanted to wear all that crap, he'd have reenlisted.

They have to justify that budget somehow.

/I wonder who's country club buddy in congress owns the manufacturing plant

At every large outlet I've been to for the past month or two the ONLY available calibers are 7MM, .30-06 (?) 300 Mag, 270, 10mm and any shotgun round you want. The shelves are bare. Even .30-30 is scarce. Really?

Sure has put a dent in my Sunday morning recoil therapy sessions.

I haven't seen 9mm in well over a month. .40 has started showing up lately around here, though.

Because every nut-job douche bag bought 50,000 rounds of the stuff.  They STILL honestly believe that Reagan was the Patron Saint of guns (even after banning production of EVERY new machine gun), and that O'Bammy will be showing up any day now to seize their .22 rifles.  Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!

It's obvious to anyone who isn't a SHEEPLE (SHERSON?), that the Allied Marxist Squirrel Collective has made a devil's agreement with the Federal Government in which access to the dreaded .22lr ammunition (known to the squirrels as "the orphan maker") is limited. In return, the squirrels will clearly act as shock troops against the glorious resistance and attempt to decimate the rebellion's strategic nut reserves.

The patriot's clear duty here is to go to city parks and yell at the squirrels. Let them know we are on to their CONSPIRACY.

Since they are effectively tasked with doing battle against drug cartels along certain portions of the border, there could be some legitimate uses for a few MRAPs.

2013-03-04 12:59:20 PM
What's the point of posse comitatus if we're just going to turn local PD's and federal civilian law enforcement into defacto military organizations anyway? That is a LOT of military vehicles. I could understand having a few here and there pre-positioned at regional response centers - just in case - but that's a farking army's worth.

How many farking terrorists are they planning on fighting here in America? 314 million?

Our county has an armored assault vehicle. We are a small community of red meat red staters where a recent poll showed nearly 70% of our population doubt the legitimacy of Obama's citizenship. They were funding those bad boys like crazy after 9-11. If there is a DHS round-up of undesirables, I prefer they be transported in either the backs of police cars or marched through the streets in chains. I will insist that if they come for me, I will be allowed to carry my own cross through the marketplace. I hope one of you will have the decency to photoshop a halo on the AP photo of my lifeless head. My mom will wanna press that in her bible.

Vision To America is a division of Christian Worldview Communications, LLC. Founded in 2006 by Gary DeMar and Brandon Vallorani, Vision to America exists to help America return to our Founding Father's vision for a Christian Republic. America was once a light to the world-a place that God blessed with liberty and prosperity. Today, Americans are taught that the Almighty State has all the answers. As a result, our God-given liberties are being traded for a false sense of security. It is our Vision to see Americans once again recognize that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights and that this Creator is the God of the Bible."

Maybe this is for the war on drugs. I saw where the Mexican cartels had used a compression cannon to fire elbows of compressed commercial bud across the border the other day. I have a PVC potato gun that is ridiculous.

Two options: 1. These vehicles represent a long term contract where several generations of vehicles will be built over a long period of time to replace worn out ones, eventually totaling 2,700.

2. This order is a hand out to some politician's defense contractor donor/friend/brother in law, and most of these vehicles will eventually rot in some storage field somewhere, never having been used.

You fail to understand that, as of now, the military will be dumping a shiatload of MRAPs because they don't really fit out MPS ships and take an assload of space on normal modes of transport.  Plus the military  really wants to reduce their inventory of them, and voila!  There are surplus MRAPs for the DHS to buy.

When I redeployed from AFG, we were wondering what the hell we were going to do with all those MRAPs.  Certainly not turn them over to the Afghans.....MRAPs have some pretty classified protection and no way you turn that over.

/I'm no conspiracy theorist, but if this story is true, it is disturbing

The weapons industry sure does have an excellent business model.

Step 1: develop a "second amendment culture"
Step 2: Have pundits, writers, and lobbyists drum up fears that the government will ban all guns, leaving your everyday law-abiding citizen defenseless against criminals and the government
Step 3: wait until a mass shooting happens, immediately accuse gun control proponents of opportunistically using the event as an excuse to restrict/ban guns
Step 4: reap massive profits as gun nuts have a bonanza buying up huge stocks of ammunition and $1,000+ assault rifles.

It is.
In any other political climate I'd blame it on the usual waste and corruption seen in government contracting. Problem here is we're in the middle of an economic nightmare, the government isn't able to balance its own books, the political scene is growing more strained every day and the world in general is looking to turn pretty violent with many governments already in turmoil.

Maybe DHS is seeing something coming down the pipes that joe citizen just refuses to believe.
