I guess America isn't the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between, after all.

I think the thing about guys like Mugabe, and Zuma to some considerable extent, is that they let the racist scumbags point and say: "Look what happened when we gave blacks the vote!"

Too bad they don't have oil (they don't right?) or we could liberate them too.

Zimbabwe: Zero intelligence mainly because all bloody whites emigrated.
Told to me by the last white person to emigrate as an easy way to spell Zimbabwe.

The funny/sad thing is that it was the same sort of racist scumbags who put Mugabe into power all those years ago.

And they then blame it on the West for "deliberately sabotaging the country". What was once the farming capital of Africa now can't even feed itself.

Yes, because taking from the rich and distributing to the poor (in this case, farmland) is a central tenet of the GOP.

Don't they have enough real flaws that you shouldn't have to attribute everything bad to them?

Simply getting rid of Mugabe is unlikely to do much to improve the lives of the citizens of Zimbabwe, as he'll either be quickly replaced by a strongman, or slowly replaced by a strongman after a civil war.

Mugabe was hailed as a great leader by the west after he brough tan end to a very bloody civil war when he took control of the country.

I have to agree with you. It makes far better sense to cut taxes for the rich and raise taxes on the poor. Look how well trickle down turned out!

On an up side if they devolve into a civil war we could make some nice profits by selling arms to all sides.  Yes I know the country is near insolvency but foreign financiers would flood Zimbabwe if there is a civil war.

$4-6 per round, plus the cost of dropping multiple sniper teams into a sovereign nation without detection, and subsequent extraction, any gear they must abandon/destroy, plus intelligence operations to muddy the waters or deceive investigators after the fact.   I put it at about $10-30 million.

Gosh, that's a lot of money just to initiate a bloody power struggle that will further terrorize a desperate population of oppressed paupers, in a country that has few resources we consider strategic.  /snark

Can't this guy just die already? Just another crazy dictator. Of course, when you have to fight a war to wrestle power from a privledged minority and a racist dick like Ian Smith, well, the person who wins is probably going to be a ruthless psycho, which about sums up Mugabe (and bodes ill for Syria).

As for the land reform and the racial issues, I have mixed feelings. Frankly, the white "Rhodesians" were basically the modern equivalent of southern plantation owners. The ones that stayed, though, you have to give them some credit for trying. But when most of the land and property is owned by a tiny part of the population, you NEED land reform. In typical Mugabe fashion, though, he went about it in pretty much the most evil and corrupt way possible.

Botswana, next door, is doing just fine. Funny, that.

Maybe stop pointing figers at Zimbabwe. The US has -16 Trillion in the bank, and still bought 2200 armoured vehicles that no one wants. Makes a big birthday cake seem like not such a big deal.

RIght, because everyone who owes money on a mortgage or a credit card subtracts those values from their bank accounts.

They should. If you have a bank account bigger than what you need to cover month to month expenses, and also carry a credit card debt, then you are doing it wrong.

./ admit it.  your analogy makes no sense, and its time to move on.
