And now the NSA can wiretap you with impunity while SCOTUS just ruled you can't sue if the feds don't admit you were being wiretapped.

On the rare occasions that someone does win a suit against one of these three-letter agencies, there should be jail time for the officials who obstructed public access to the information. Maybe that'll start them, just the tiniest bit, on playing fairly.

Unfortunately, the Justice Department is under the Executive and the Executive has a lot of skeletons to keep hidden. We could seriously use some whoop-ass from the Judicial branch.

Love how these articles always frame this sort of thing as 'long ago'... as if suddenly somehow all these agencies became virtuous and NEVER EVER do this sort of thing anymore.

MyRandomName: t is astounding watching the same people up in arms regarding FISA wiretaps defend non court reviewed drone attacks.

It's not the least bit surprising to watch the Politics Tab types suddenly defend everything they once claimed to abhor.

Frankly, the only thing truly near and dear to their heart is the defense whatever their favorite political party happens to be doing today, and to hell with what they claimed to believe yesterday.

However, there are still quite a few farkers whose opinions don't change with the political winds.

"Land of the free" is a song lyric. That's all. People convince themselves otherwise when repeating phrases, sayings and song lyrics etcetera without giving thought.

Also makes a nice album title...

They instantly became virtuous when Obama became president.

/they were criminals hell-bent on imposing thought control on the American military dictatorship when Bush was President
//if a Republican ever gets elected president again, they will become bad guys again

While the idea of being tracked my any government agency is creepy, I live such an uninteresting life, those following my day to day would be bored to tears.

Just because they're watching you, doesn't mean you're not paranoid.

(they watch everyone)
