The funniest comedians are also the funniest looking.  Most people don't like laughing at people better looking than them (if they are of the same gender).

I've always thought it was being unattractive that made one funny.  Developing a sense of humor is a good coping mechanism for getting people to like your company as well as for dealing with rejection from those who don't.

That's why the best broads were ugly ducklings.  They spend their awkward teenage years developing a personality/sense of humor, which isn't lost when they blossom into attractive women.

The prom queens, etc. generally didn't have to develop a personality or sense of humor, as their looks were sufficient for social acceptance.

/Was a very ugly tween, at least for the area I was in
//Then I got tall, filled out, acne cleared up...BAM! Hilarious dude!

Having someone that makes me laugh is very important.  I would date an average guy with an above average sense of humor before I would date an above average looking guy with an average sense of humor.

/but I'm old and know what is important in life.

Ive always enjoyed making people laugh since i could talk. But never been the best looking guy.

I started going to the gym 2 years ago 6 days a week and eating right. Lost 40lbs of fat, gained 10lbs of muscle, grew facial hair to define my jaw more, and redid my whole wardrobe (which i had to as nothing fit).

Then when i went out suddenly i was the life of the party! I was taken back with just the thought of how my wit hasn't changed but how much more people liked me. It was just a "damn people are really shallow". I always knew that, I just didnt think it was to such an extent that it was.

Laughter is a defense mechanism.  It's an outward sign that your body is overruling stress hormones in favor of relief.  When the biggest guy in the room laughs, he's signaling it's safe, and your brain is glad to cash in some stress for pleasure.  "Big" can be defined in any socially acceptable form of power, or biologically.  Laughter demonstrates that the laugher is unlikely to be aggressive, if the leader isn't laughing, or that the laugher accepts the decisions of the leader, if the leader is laughing.  People just want to eat, and mate.  Lots of them will starve themselves to death to improve their odds of getting laid.

Being unaccepted makes you funny, since humor is basically how the brain deals with overruling a stress response with a pleasure response.  Laughter, like crying, is a metabolism fueled drug fix to feel better about the stress a situation causes.  Humor is correctly identifying and inducing situations people find stressful and finding ways to assure them they are going to be okay.

It probably has to do more with having confidence and knowing that you are good looking, rather than just being funny.

Guys always laugh at hot chicks' jokes, even if they are in no way funny. Guys will laugh their way through a woman's "bad laugh" if they think they'll get something out of it.
