Was the shooter autistic?

Thank god they put the ball through the hoop. Horrible things would've happened if the ball hadn't gone through the hoop, and now everything is perfect forever.

Get that kid an NBA agent, now.

That was a rather unusual sequence.

Thank god you made a snarky comment about how basketball is a Very Serious Thing and how it affects everybody's lives forever. I originally would have taken it as teenagers just playing a game, but now I realize the error in my line of thought and my life will now be perfect forever.

Well, I am glad syrynxx set you straight. If this kid ends up a shoe salesman that hates his wife, kids and Dodge that sees more push time than drive time, he can still look back at that moment and declare himself hero for life while sitting on his couch with hand down his pants. No matter how rich the players of the other team gets, they will never be able take back being bested by that guy.

I timed it 3 times, and not once did that play happen in the 2.9 seconds that was apparently left on the clock. White team got boned hard.

I loved how the ref ran for his life immediately after signaling that the shot was good. :-)

Well it's definitely the best half court buzzerbeater where the ball went through four sets of hands in the last 3 seconds, two of which were on the other team, that I've ever seen.

As an aside, I wonder how many of those players even know who the Huguenots were.

Watch the clock. It starts as soon as the inbound pass is touched like it is supposed to and the shot leaves the shooters hands with 0.1 seconds on the clock. Basket counts.

I'd bet Fark would have a lower percentage, at least compared the New Rochelle team. All players, probably a wash.

I grew up on the main street that runs between these two schools (but based on district lines, I went to Tuckahoe HS, which at the time was the smallest public school in Westchester county. My entire school's building could fit in one section New Rochelle HS. There were less kids in my entire HS than in one grade level at NRHS, but I digress). Even though I didn't go to either of these schools, I think this is awesome. What an amazing shot.

That's what I thought, too. I think the timekeeper started the clock at the right moment. It's deceiving a bit because the first long pass is untimed.

Clock started exactly when it was supposed to start, and the ball left his hands at 0.1 seconds. Unless you're claiming that the game clock runs slow, you're incorrect.

Wonder why they thought it was relevant. This was not a typical shot from behind the arc, just a fluke desperation heave.

Clock shouldn't start on an inbounds until it is touched by a player on the court. Long throws and rolls are untamed until the ball is touched. Basket looked good to me.

If you rapid-fire the pause button to frame-by-frame the vid, the ball is still in his hands when the clock is at 00.0. Now the actual game clock might be a bit different, but going by the one we can see in the vid, the basket should not have counted.

Yes yes.

Now can we talk about how dumb it was for that first Mt. Vernon player to pass the ball for any reason after his interception?

I'd hate it if my life's accomplishments peaked when I was zit-teen years old.

I do hope the young shooter basket-dunker rises above his accomplishment and does greatly ordinary things.

in the replay it does appear that the clock the impose on the screen on the bottom right is slightly behind (<0.01 seconds) the clock that is visible above the basket, so you could be right, but without higher quality video at a higher frame rate, its really hard to tell.

I did that with the 'other angle' where you can see the actual time clock on the wall, and at 0:00.1 the ball is several feet above him (eclipsing a light). It was away and good. The side angle is too blurry right at the 0.1 moment.

jedzz: Yes yes.

My senior year, a player from my HS made that same mistake. He stoled the ball from the other team on their end, then rolled it to the far end. It did burn a couple seconds, but it left 14 seconds to work with. Our opponents long passed it in, fed it to a forgotten player in the right corner who shot a perfect three. My dad was yelling 'You idiot!' the moment the player rolled the ball. He got a few looks, but nobody said a word afterwards. To add extra points of dumb, the player that shot the winning shot, was shooting those all game. They never once covered him, but that is what you get at that level.

You throw it up in the air so nobody can foul you or steal the ball and the clock runs out. The mistake the kid made was that he threw a wimpy little lob instead of chucking it straight up.

I may be wrong and it is close, but the clock never shows 0.1 seconds. It goes from 0.2 to 0.0. Not sure how you arrived at that conclusion.

Watch the video to 2:40. The game clock is imposed over the video, ball was out of his hands at 0.01.

They don't run off either. And especially they don't run off after being told by a security to guy to "get the hell out of here if you value your life" like the 3rd ref was told, after he lingered on the court as if it were a normal game.

I have worked security at probably....50 high school basketball games in my career. In each one the referee's trot off the court as soon as the game is decided. Never seen them hang around, or mill about the court. They always jog off the court.

I can tell by the pixels the ball was never loose at .1

It definitely appears that it is out of his hand at 0.1, but the thing that threw me off was the lights on the backboards lit up before the clock hit 00.0.
