jehovahs witness protection: syrynxx: The funny part - those babbies are all going to vote Democratic in 18 years.

True. But it's NOT funny.

serial_crusher: Solution: stop rewarding welfare queens for having babies.

Yup

Solution: stop paying for Mexican babies AMIRITE?

Now if we'd just let these babies starve in the streets, we could really stimulate the economy with some tax cuts.

Who could have guessed that there are unintended consequences to unprotected sex?

2013-03-03 05:43:20 PM

Karac: Well, it might not happen if you took some of the money you're no longer spending on planned parenthood and instead used it to teach comprehensive sexual education to school children. Or you could do even better and put condom dispensers in the school bathrooms.

It would certainly help the situation, but not solve it.

Of course, both of those scenarios assume that 1) we're not talking about Texass, and 2) Texan taxpayers have the mental capacity to remember when they were randy youngsters and to realize that their kids aren't magically different.

Indeed.

Just think how many jobs that would create! The cleanup crews and the chorizo factory jobs alone would drive unemployment to record lows!

1) Ban birth control. Ban abortion. Abstinence-only edumakashun. Defund Planned Parenthood.
2) Wonder why so many out of wedlock births.
3) Abolish food stamps. That'll larn them Welfare Queens. (The Welfare Queens with the babies, of course, not the ones with the zillion-dollar contracts with the Small Government®.)
4) Ship all the well-paying jobs overseas.
5) Gut the public schools. You don't need no edumakashun to work a McJob, and teachers are Union Thugs (except when the NRA wants to arm them).
6) Hike taxes on people who work for a living. Cut them on the plutocrats. Abolish the minimum wage. David Koch's Mercedes is six months old and he wants a new one.
7) Wonder why so many people break the law instead of starving quietly, or getting a McJob for take-home pay that won't take them home.
8) zOMG CRIME WAVE!
9) Zillion-dollar Small Government® contracts for private prisons and purveyors of riot gear.
10) No ??? here, baby.
11) Profit!

way south: I know people here are tempted to think that without planned parenthood personally putting its restraining hand on everyone's penis, we'd all breed like rabbits and overpopulate the planet.
The truth is rarely so politically convenient.

So Planned Parenthood is forcing drug stores to stock rubbers and forcing men to buy them?

As for the overpopulation thing, in a world where contraceptives didn't exist but the rest of our medical technology did (which I don't think would happen, the technology behind a neonatal ICU is light years ahead of tech for a condom) I think overpopulation might well be a major concern.

But of course, all of that has very little to do about the article, which is about the economic benefits of people only having kids when they're ready to do so economically, which these days is a lot older than it used to be.

Yes, by giving more kids over to the state and putting their parents in jail you're sure to reduce costs. You should run for office in Texas. You'll get elected for sure.

Less about saving money and more about doing the right thing.
Besides, by actually educating those kids and raising them with proper role models, we could turn them into productive taxpayers instead of the next generation of freeloaders. Might actually turn out in everybody's favor, well except for certain political parties who prefer a cycle of poverty to ensure a strong voter base.

serial_crusher: Solution: stop rewarding welfare queens for having babies.

Yup

You would actually believe the Welfare Queen myth.

It comes with a real live children in poverty that grow up to be non-productive members of society that end up costing everyone more moral. But some folks can't see beyond their own enjoyment of being tuff on layabouts.

Well, since your parents knew they would grow older and get monthly handouts from the government for the rest of their lives, I'm sure you're quite unproductive yourself, right?

WTH? Ignoring a more-or-less permanent underclass isn't fiscal conservatism, it's bad policy, regardless of morality (depending on how you view such things). It costs more to not help family planning, not less. The current demonizing of the poor as an ongoing effort to reduce public spending is both bad public policy, as well as abhorrent to most religious thought.

serial_crusher: Nadie_AZ: serial_crusher: Solution: stop rewarding welfare queens for having babies.

Rather, stop taking care of American children. Stop providing for future American citizens. Punish people who have sex and no money and hurt their children worse. Or maybe we could take those children away to punish those welfare queens. And we could then ... what? Give the children to those that can afford them? Like the wealthy? The rich? They can afford 100s of children.

I've always advocated a well funded orphanage to go along with jail time and sterilization for the dole mongers.

I always thought an IUD or one of the birth control things that they put under the skin for women collecting welfare (I'd say men as well, but at the moment we don't have anything similar). After they are off, they can have it removed. If they are already struggling and needing welfare it seems irresponsible to allow them to have another kid, furthering their dependence on government and making it hard for them to remove themselves from welfare. My issue is less with the cost of the government, and more with the families on welfare, it's hard taking care of little kids, and day-care can be expensive. It gets a bit easier when they get older and are going to school, then the parents have more flexibility to work and further their situation.

However, what you are proposing is just being a complete D*ck to people who have made mistakes in their life. All in the hope that a couple of them will be the 'dreaded' wellfare mom and dad.

That's because we traditionally haven't given a shiat about spending money on them. Success is not about whether or not your parents are in the picture. It's about the education you get.
Republicans shiat all over our education system to lower taxes and Democrats shiat all over our education system to protect teachers unions. If they'd both shut up and focus on reducing actually frivolous spending (i.e. bloated military budgets and handouts to people who have proven themselves irresponsible), we might be able to fix this mess of a country.

I bet texas thought this was some sort of way to increase the white population but then they noticed groups other than white people were being affected and realized they'd better re-implement funding.
