....the fear-mongering reached a new level of insane when the vice president he would no longer accept military aircraft escorts during his weekend sojourns, and instead take public transportation to save "taxpayers" money:

Joe makes an entirely sensible decision in light of the cutbacks here and is immediately accused of reaching "a new level of insane" in "fear-mongering" by the brain trust at TH?

Why is "taxpayers" in scare quotes?

Why am I even reading a Clownhall link?

Should have been be "vice president announced publicly" there.

That's too bad. They'll have to re-install the heater element in that balloon..

He can't drive home because a sitting VP is not allowed to drive.

At least, according to his interview in C&D where he lamented not being allowed to drive.

Seems like low hanging fruit to be submitting TownHall links, same for InfoWars. Label them all as Tin Foil Hat and be done with them.

Because the book I was advertised upon entering that site entitled "Obama's Four Horsemen" is definitely not using fear-mongering and scare tactics to win a political argument. No sir.

The explicit message is that Joe missed taking the train.  The same train he took for years.  Now he gets to take it again.

TFA's interpretation of the "implicit" message is bullsh*t.

Serves me right for clicking that link.

Real AmericanTMVP's walk. That's right. They walk right up to cages in the ground, on their command the birds with their wings clipped are released and they shoot them. Sometimes accidentally shooting other people as well. But dammit, they shot something

Yeah, he's said a few times he's always wanted to be able to take the train on his weekend trips home, but the SS wouldn't let him. It's only like an hour and a half by train, or something like that? Probably takes him that long to get there by plane too, with taxiing, takeoffs, landings, etc.. *Shrug*

The train probably isn't the safest way to travel for a sitting VP though, especially the way he apparently does it - going from car to car, shaking hands, etc.. probably gives his bodyguards nightmares. :)

I guess he can't afford a cab, making only 231k per year, and all. Practically nothing, that is.

I still kinda doubt his SS guards will be allowed to take the train even with budget cuts (it ultimately could cost more due to the security requirements), we'll see though.

quatchi: Joe makes an entirely sensible decision

I could be wrong but it doesn't seem to me that it would be cheaper to button down security on an entire Amtrak train and at least two stations in both directions every weekend than to just fly a military route. In light of that, I'd be careful about throwing around the term "sensible decision".

It would seem like it would be pretty easy to coordinate with Amtrak having a bit of extra security for people getting on/off that train.  Some people would probably pay a premium and put up with the extra security for a chance to meet Biden.  It seems like a great marketing gimmick that Amtrak could use to their advantage to boost ridership.

Do they sell alcohol on Amtrak. They could totally sell a "Drinkin with Joe" event every Friday.

Let me get this right, you think there are regularly scheduled military flights between DC and Wilmington, Delaware? Even if there are, the train is still probably cheaper.  I mean, they're already paying the secret service agents, what huge costs do you associate with securing the train?

According to the updates on the Indiegogo site, he should be sending out the t-shirts in the coming days (assuming his date estimates posted are correct).

However, it mentions nothing of the charity money, so I have no idea.

You know what I love about that pic? The younger guy on the left totally has an "Oh, you!" look on his face.

The older one looks like he's grumpy cuz he's in a photo op...it may have not even mattered who the photo op was with.
